September 1838, as Alii Lydia Kamakaeha, eldest
daughter of The Hon. AliiCaesar Kaluaiku
Kapa'akea, PC, CK, by his wife, Alii Analea Keohokaloee,
daughter of Aikanaka - see Hawaii (Kauai), educ.
Royal Sch. Honolulu. Raised to the title of Princess with
the style of Her Royal Highness 14th
February 1875. Appointed as Heir Apparent by her brother,
assuming the name of Liliu-o-kalani, 12th
April 1877. Attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations of
Queen Victoria in London, 1887. Acted as Regent during
his absences abroad, 20th January to 29th
October 1881, and 25th November 1890 to 29th
January 1891. Proclaimed as Queen on the death of her
brother, 29th January 1891. Sovereign Grand
Master of the Royal Orders of Kamehameha I, Kalakaua I,
Kapi'olani, the Crown of Hawaii, and the Star of Oceania.
Placed in confinement 16th January 1895 by a
"provisional government" composed of American
settlers who had overthrown the government with the help
of US on 16th and 17th of January
1893. Forced to abdicate while under arrest, 24th
January 1895. Released on parole, 6th February
