GENEALOGY

• 1) Alii Kalani-Kama-Ke'eaumoku-nui, 1^st Alii of Kona (s/o Alii Kalani-Kauleleiaiwi). Succeeded on the death of his father as Alii of Kona only, 1754. m. (first) Kamaka-i-moku, former wife of Kalani-nui-i-a-mamao, and daughter of Ku'a Nu'uanu, of Oahu, by his wife, Alii Umi-ula-i-Ka'ahumanu, eldest daughter of Alii Mahi-o-lole. m. (second) Kailakanoa. He had issue, one son by his first wife, and two sons by his second:
  • a) Alii Keoua Kalani-kupu'uapai-kalani-nui Ahilapalapa (s/o Kamaka-i-moku). m. (first) Alii Kahikikala-o-kalani, daughter of Alii Kalahumoku, Alii of Hana, by his wife, Kalani Kaumehameha. m. (second) Alii Kamaka'eheukuli (m. second, The Hon. Alii Kame'eiamoku), eldest daughter of Alii Ha'ae-a-Mahi, by his first wife, Alii Kalelemauli-o-kalani, daughter of Kaulahea II 22^nd Mo'i of Maui. m. (third) Alii Kekuiapoiwa II (m. second, Alii Kamanawa I, and d. 1809), third daughter of Alii Ha'ae-a-Mahi, by his second wife, Alii Kekela-o-kalani, daughter of Alii Kauakahiakua-o-Lono, of Maui. m. (fourth) his maternal half sister, Manono I, daughter of Kalani-nui-i-a-mamao, by his wife, Kamakaimoku, daughter of Kua Nu'uanu. m. (fifth) Alii Kalola Pupuka-o-Honokawailani  (b. ca. 1735; m. third, ca. 1753, Alii Kalaniopu'u-a-Kaiamamao, 6^th Alii of Kohala, 4^th Alii of Kona and 2^nd Alii of Kau. m. fourth, Kaopuiki, and d. ca. 1790), former wife of Kamehameha-nui Ai'luau, 24^th Mo'i of Maui, and eldest daughter of Kekaulike Kui-Hono-i-Kamoku, 23^rd Mo'i of Maui, by his first wife and half sister, Alii Kekuaipoiwa-nui Kalani-kauhihiwakama Wanakapu, eldest daughter of Kaulahea II, 22^nd Mo'i of Maui. m. (sixth) Alii Akahi-a-Kawalu, elder daughter of Alii Palikua, Alii of Koloa, by his wife, H.M. Queen Kawalu, daughter of Kamaka-he-lei, 22^nd Alii Aimoku of Kauai, by her first husband, Kaneoneo, 24^th Alii Aimoku of Oahu. He d.v.p. 1752, having had issue, five sons and one daughter:

      • (1) Alii Kaohelelani. m. Alii Nuhi, son of Alii Hinai, Alii of Waimea, by his wife, Kupapa-a-i. She had issue, one son and one daughter - see above.
    • ii) Alii Kukahikuihala (s/o Kahikikala-o-kalani). m. Kalahuimoku. He had issue:
      • (1) Alii Napelakapu-o-kakae. m. Mauna Puoa-nui.
    • iii) Alii Kala'imamahu (s/o Kamaka'eheukuli). Chief Priest of Io and Kane. m. (first) 1793 (div. ca. 1795) H.M. Queen Ka-hei-hei-malie Kalakaua [Hoapili-wahine] (b. 1778; m. second, ca. 1795, second, H.M. King Kamehameha I the Great - see below. m. third, at Honolulu, Oahu, 19^th October1823, Alii 'Ulu-maheihei Hoapili-kane, Alii of Lahaina, Governor of Maui, and d. on Maui, 16^th January 1842), Governess of Maui 1840-1842, younger daughter The Hon. Alii Ke'eaumoku II Papaiahiahi, Counsellor of State to King Kamehameha the Great, by his wife, Alii Namahana'i Kalele-o-kalani, younger daughter of Kekaulike Kalani-nui-Kui-Hono-i-Kamoku, 23^rd Mo'i of Maui. m. (second) H.R.H. Princess Kahakuha'akoi Wahini-pio (m. second, H.M. King Kamehameha the Great. m. third, H.R.H. Prince Kahoanuku Kinau, and d. 1826), daughter of Alii Kekuamanoha of Maui, by his wife, Alii Kamakahu-kilani, elder daughter of Alii Kauihiaimokuakama. m. (third) 1819, H.M. Queen Keopuolani-Ahu-i-Kekai-Makuahine-a-Kama-Kalani-Kau-i-Kealani (b. at Wailuku, Maui, 1778; d. at Lahaina, Maui, 16^th September 1823), widow of his half brother H.M. King Kamehameha I the Great, and only daughter of Kiwalao, 7^th Alii of Kohala, 5^th Alii of Kona and 3^rd Alii of Kau, by his wife and half sister, H.M. Queen Kekuiapoiwa Liliha. He d. after 1820, having had issue, one son and one daughter:
      • (1) H.R.H. Princess Miriam Auhea-Kalani-Kui-Kawekiu-o-Kekauluohi- Keali'iuhiwaihanau-o-Kalani-Makahonua-Ahilapalapa-Kai-wikapu-o-Kaleilei-a- Kalakaua. b. 27^th July 1794 (d/o Queen Kalakaua). Baptised at Kawaiahao Church, with the name of Miriam, 2^nd March 1828. Kuhina-Nui as Ka'ahumanu III from 8^th June 1839. m. seven husbands including (first) at Kamakahonu, Kailua, Kona, Hawaii Island, 1817, her uncle, H.M. Kamehameha the Great (b. at Kohala, Hawaii Island, November 1737; d. at Kamakahonu, Kailua, Kona, Hawaii Island, 8^th May1819), third son of Alii Keoua Kalani-kupuapaiKalani-nui Ahilapalapa, by his third wife, Alii Kekuiapoiwa II, daughter of Alii Ha'ae-a-Mahi. m. (second) 1819 (repud. 1824), as his fifth wife, her cousin, H.M. Lihohilo Kamehameha II, King of the Hawaiian Islands (b. at Hilo, 1797; d.s.p. in London, 13^th July 1824), eldest surviving son of H.M. Kamehameha I, by his Chief Queen, Keopuolani. m. (third) 1824, H.H. Prince Charles Kana'ina, PC (b. at Honolulu, Oahu, 4^th May 1798; d. at Honolulu, Oahu, 13^th March 1877), rcvd: KGC of the Orders of Kamehameha (1874; CK 1865) and Kalakaua I (1876), youngest son of Eia, by his wife, Kauwa, daughter of Palila. She d. from influenza, at "Pohukaina", Honolulu, Oahu, 7^th June 1845 (bur. at sea, off Waikiki), having had issue, an only son, by her third husband:

    • v) Alii Kalani-ma-lokuloku-i-Keopo-o-kalani [Keali'maika'i] (s/o Kekuiapoiwa II). Chief Priest of Io and Kane. m. (first) his half-sister, Alii Ki'ilaweau, second daughter of Alii Keoua Kalani-kupuapai Kalani-nui Ahilapalapa, by his half sister, Manono I. m. (second) Alii Kaliko-o-kalani, former wife of Alii Kaleipaihala, and daughter of Alii Kekua'alaimoku. He d. 14^th November 1809, having had issue, two sons:
      • (1) H.R.H. Prince Ka'owa Kekua-o-Kalani (s/o Ki'ilaweau). Keeper of the war god Kukailimoku, and defended him when he was attacked after the breaking of the taboos in 1819. m. Manono II (d. at her husband's side at Kuamo'o, Hawaii, December 1819), former wife of H.M. King Kamehameha the Great, and daughter of Alii Kekuamanoha, of Maui. He d. at Kuamo'o, Hawaii, December 1819.
      • (2) H.R.H. Prince Benjamin Namakeha-o-kalani. b. ca. 1799 (s/o Kaliko-o-kalani). m. 8^th March 1852, H.M. Queen Esther Kapi'olani Napelakapuokakai (b. at Hilo, Hawai, 31^st December 1834, m. second at Kawaiahao Church, 19^th December 1863, H.M. King Kalakaua I, and d.s.p. at Pualeilani House, Waikiki, 24^th June 1899), eldest daughter of The Hon. Alii Kuhio Kalaniana'ole, Alii of Hilo, by his wife, H.H. Princess Kinoike Kekaulike, elder daughter of H.M. George Kaumualii, King of Kauai and Niihau. He d.s.p. at Honolulu, Oahu, 27^th December 1860.
    • vi) Alii Kawelo-o-kalani (s/o Kamaka'eheukuli). m. (first) 1820, H.M. Queen Peleuli-i-Kekela-o-kalani, widow of H.M. King Kamehameha the Great, and daughter of Alii Kamanawa I, by his first wife, Alii Kekela-o-kalani, daughter of Alii Kauakahiakua-o-Lono, of Maui. m. (second) Naonaina. He had issue, two daughters:
      • (1) Alii Kiliwehi (d/o Queen Peleuli). m. The Hon. Alii William Pitt Kalanimoku (m. second, Alii Kuini Liliha, and d. at Kamakahonu, Kailua, Kona, Hawaii Island, 7^th February 1827), son of Alii Kekuamanoha, by his first wife, Kamakahu-kilani, daughter of Kamakahukilani. She had issue, an only son - see Hawaii (Maui).
      • (2) Alii Kamahanakapu. m. Keakakilohi, of Maui. She had issue:
        • (a) Alii Kalani-o-pu'u.

      • (1) Alii Pauelua (s/o Kailapakalua). m. Kaluai, elder daughter of Kupapa'ulu, by his wife, Ahukimala'a. He had issue, one daughter:
        • (a) Alii Akahi. m. (first) Kepa'a. m. (second) Ke'eaumoku.
    • i) H.R.H. Princess Ki'ilaweau (d/o Manono I). m. her half-brother, Alii Kalani-ma-lokuloku-i-Keopo-o-kalani [Keali'maika'i] (d. 14^th November 1809), sometime Chief Priest of Io and Kane, fourth son of Alii Keoua Kalani-kupuapaiKalani-nui Ahilapalapa, by his third wife, Alii Kekuiapoiwa II, daughter of Alii Ha'ae-a-Mahi. She had issue - see above.
    • ii) H.R.H. Princess Kekuiapoiwa Liliha. b. ca. 1746 (d/o Kalola). m. (first) ca. 1775, her maternal half brother, Kiwalao, 7^th Alii of Kohala, 5^th Alii of Kona and 3^rd Alii of Kau (b. ca. 1760; k. by Ke'eaumoku in battle at Mokuohai, July, 1782), second son of Kalaniopu'u-a-Kaiamamao, 6^th Alii of Kohala, 4^th Alii of Kona and 2^nd Alii of Kau, by his wife, Alii Kalola Pupuka-o-Honokawailani, eldest daughter of Kekaulike Kalani-nui-Kui-Hono-i-Kamoku, 23^rd Mo'i of Maui. m. (second), ca. 1782 (div.) H.M. King Kamehameha the Great. m. (third) Pueo. She d. at Kau, 1815, bur. at Kealakekua, having had issue, an only daughter by her first husband - see below.
    • iii) H.R.H. Princess Kanui-o-pio Ha'aheo (d/o Akahi-a-Kawalu). m. (first) her great nephew, H.R.H. Prince Kaikoolani-Kau-i-Kahekili-Keawe-Hanaiohua (d.s.p.), fifth son of H.M. King Kamehameha the Great, by his eighth wife and aunt, H.M. Queen Peleuli-i-Kekela-o-kalani, daughter of Kamanawa. m. (second) Alii Kalua-i-Konahale Kuakini [John Adams II] (d. at Hulihee House, Kailua, Kona, Hawaii Island, December 1844, bur. in a cave, Kahaluu), Governor of Hawaii Island, younger son of The Hon. Alii Ke'eaumoku II Papaiahiahi, Counsellor of State to King Kamehameha the Great, by his wife, Alii Namahana'i Kalele-o-kalani, daughter of Kekaulike Kalani-nui-Kui-Hono-i-Kamoku, 23^rd Mo'i of Maui. She d.s.p.
  • b) Alii Kanekoa, Alii of Waimea (s/o Kailakanoa). m. (first) Alii Kalani-kau-lelei-awi, daughter of Alii Kepoomahoe, by his wife, Alii Kekaulike-i-Kawekiuonalini, daughter of Keawe-i-Kekahiali'i-o-kamoku, 21^st Alii Aimoku of Hawaii. m. (second) Kaiha-nui-moku. He was k. ca.1794, having had issue, one son and one daughter by his first wife, and one son by his second:
    • i) Alii Kalaiwohi (s/o Kalanikauleleiawi) who had issue:
      • (1) Alii Kaunahi. He d. at Lahaina, 1875.
    • ii) Alii Nalehu Kuahuula. b. ca. 1806 (s/o Kaihanuimoku). m. Kaheana (b. ca. 1810). He had issue, one daughter:
      • (1) Alii Maele Napuhiwa Kailiponuiiikanhi Ohapau Lahela Kuahu'ula. b. at Lahaina, Maui, 28^th November 1832. m. Patrick Pia Shaw (b. at Kaanapali, Maui, 17^th March 1832; d. at Lahaina, Maui, 28^th April 1907), son of William Shaw, Esq., by his wife, Kikookoo Kauapanikalani. She d. at Lahaina, Maui, 28^th November 1894, having had issue, four sons and eight daughters:
        • (a) George Nalehu Kuahuula Shaw. b. at Lahaina, Maui, 25^th October 1857.
        • (b) Henry Albert Keonelehuaokaona Shaw. b. at Kaunakakai, Molokai, 13^th June 1869. He d. 15^th September 1920.

        • (d) Elizabeth Victoria Kalaiakamanu Shaw. b. at Lahaina, Maui, 25^th March 1856. She d. 3^rd April 1901.
        • (e) Alice Zelpha Kaehukai Shaw. b. at Kaunakakai, Molokai, 31^st August 1867. She d. 15^th April 1956.
        • (f) Rosy Keliimanoanoa Shaw. b. at Lahaina, Maui, 5^th December 1858. She d. ca. 1878.
        • (g) Mary Kawaieliapuhikani Shaw. b. at Lahaina, Maui, 25^th December 1865. She d. at Lahaina, Maui, 8^th May 1937 (bur. Nu'uanu Memorial Park, Honolulu).
    • iii) Alii Poomaikalani (d/o Kalanikauleleiawi). m. Alii Elelule La'akeaelelulu, son of Alii Keawe-mauhili, Alii of Hilo, by his first wife, 'Ululani, 7^th Alii of Hilo, daughter of Mokulani, 6^th Alii of Hilo. She had issue, one son - see above.
  • c) Alii Kahai (s/o Kailakanoa).
