Marshal H.H. 'Abbas I Hilmi Pasha, Vali of Egypt,
Nubia, Darfur, Kordofan and Sennar. b. at Jeddah,
Arabia, 1st July 1812, eldest son of Field
Marshal H.H. Prince Muhammad Ahmad Tusun Pasha, by
his wife, Bamba Khanum, daughter of H.E. Muhammad
Arif Bey ibn Khalil Pasha, educ.
Lycée al-Khanqah, Cairo. Raised to the title of Pasha
March 1819, prom. Lieut-Gen. Imperial Ottoman Army 1831,
served in the Syrian campaign under his uncle Ibrahim
1831-1833, Governor of Minufiya & al-Gharbiya 1833,
and of Cairo 1840, Insp-Gen. of Army Administration 1834,
prom. Field Marshal 12/11/1849. Succeeded on the death of
his uncle, 10th November 1848. Installed at
Istanbul, 12th November 1849. Consructed the
first railway in Egypt. Rcvd: the Orders of the
August Portrait (Tasvir-i Humayun Nishani),
Glory (Atiq Nishan-i-Iftikhar) in
brilliants (12.11.1849) and Nobility (Nishan-i-Majidieh)
1st class of Turkey (1853), GC of the Order of
SS Maurice & Lazarus of Sardinia, etc. m.
Mahivash Khanum Effendi (d. 13th
November 1889, bur. Mahmud Hamdi Pasha Cemetery,
Cairo). m. (a) Hamdam Kadin Effendi
(d.s.p. at Cairo, 1851, bur.
Hosh al-Basha, Imam al-Shafi'i Cemetery). m. (b)
Shazdil [Chazdeb] Kadin Effendi (d.
at the Palace of Shubra, Cairo, 22nd December
1897). m. (c) Piralanat Khanum Effendi
(d.s.p. at Cairo, 1st
November 1892, bur. Magavri Mausoleum, Cairo). m.
(d) Hawayya Kadin Effendi (d. 1876, bur.
Afifi Cemetery, Cairo). [Lott says he also m. 1851
(div. after a few months) Gul Khanum (m.
second, H.E. (Sahib us-Sa'ada) Ahmad Pasha,
sometime C-in-C and Minister for War]. He was k.
by two of his own slaves at Binha-i-Asal, 13th
July 1854 (bur. Hosh al-Basha, Imam al-Shafi'i
Cemetery, Cairo), having had issue, three sons and two
