THE DEPUTY SUPREME HEADS OF STATE

(Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agong)

1957 - 1960 H.R.H. Sultan Hisam ud-din Alam Shah al-Haj ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ala ud-din Sulaiman Shah, Sultan of Selangor, KCMG. Elected as the fist Deputy Supreme Head of State of the Federation of Malaya with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung, 3rd August 1957. Installed at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur, 31st August 1957. Became King of the Federation of Malaya with the title of Yang di Pertuan Agung on the death of the incumbent, 1st April 1960 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1960   H.R.H. Tuanku Syed Harun Putra ibni al-Marhum Syed Husain Jamal' ul-Lail, Raja of Perlis, KCMG. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State of the Federation of Malaya with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung 14th April 1960. Became King of the Federation of Malaya with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and the style of Majesty, 1st September 1960 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1960 - 1965 H.R.H. Tuanku Sultan Ismail Nasir ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Zainal Abidin, Sultan of Trengganu. Became Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung 1960, and King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty from 21st September 1965 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1965 - 1970 H.R.H. al-Sultan al-Mu'tasimu Billah Muhib ud-din Alhaj 'Abdu'l Halim Mu'azzam Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Badlishah, Sultan of Kedah, GCB, KStJ. Became Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan, 21st September 1965 (first time). Became King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty, 21st September 1970 - see Malaysia (Kings). Became Deputy Supreme Head of State for the second time with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan, 13th September 2006 - see below.

1970 - 1975 H.R.H. Sultan Yahya Petra ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ibrahim, Sultan of Kelantan, GCMG. Became Deputy Supreme Head of State Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung from 22nd July 1970, and King of Malaysia with the title of Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty, 21st September 1975 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1975 - 1979 H.R.H. Sri Paduka Baginda Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah al-Musta'in Billah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Riayat ud-din al-Mu'azam Shah, Sultan of Pahang. Became Deputy Supreme Head of State of Malaysia with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung from 21st September 1975. Assumed the duties of King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung on the death of the incumbent, 29th March 1979 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1979 - 1984 H.R.H. Sri Paduka Tuanku Ja'afar ibni al-Marhum Tuanku 'Abdu'l Rahman, Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, GCB. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung, 19th June 1979 and served in that capacity until 25th April 1984. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State for a second time, 2nd March 1989. Elected as King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty from 16th April 1994 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1984 - 1989 H.R.H. Maulana Paduka Sri Sultan 'Azlan Muhib ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Sir Yussuf Izz ud-din Rathiu'llah Shah Ghafaru'llahulahu, Sultan of Perak, GCB, KStJ. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State of with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung, 9th February 1984. Installed at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur, 29th April 1984. Elected King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty, 2nd March 1989 - see Malaysia (Kings).

1989 - 1994 H.R.H. Sri Paduka Tuanku Ja'afar ibni al-Marhum Tuanku 'Abdu'l Rahman, Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, GCB. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung, 19th June 1979 and served in that capacity until 25th April 1984. 1994 - 1999 H.R.H. Sultan Salah ud-din 'Abdu'l Aziz Shah Alhaj ibni al-Marhum Sultan Hisam ud-din Alam Shah Alhaj, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the State of Selangor Dar ul-Ihsan, GCVO. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agung, 4th February 1994. Installed 26th April 1994. Elected as King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty, from 1999  - see Malaysia (Kings).

1999 - 2006  H.R.H. Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin al-Wathiqu Billah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud al-Muktafi Billah Shah, Sultan of Trengganu. Elected as King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty, from 13th December 2006 - see Malaysia (Kings).

2006 H.R.H. al-Sultan al-Mu'tasimu Billah Muhib ud-din Alhaj 'Abdu'l Halim Mu'azzam Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Badlishah, Sultan of Kedah, GCB, KStJ. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan, 1965. Became King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty, 21st September 1970 - see Malaysia (Kings). Became Deputy Supreme Head of State for the second time with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan, 13th September 2006.
