Appointed as Heir Apparent with the title of Raja Muda, 31^st October 1934 and formally installed as such 20^th July 1936. Succeeded on the death of his father, 31^st March 1938. Installed, 4^th April 1938. Crowned at Istana Mahkora, Klang, as Sultan dan Yang di-Pertuan Negeri Selangor Dar ul-Ihsan, 26^th January 1939. Summoned to King's House, Kuala Lumpur, and deposed by the Japanese military commander, 15^th January 1942. Elected as the fist Deputy Supreme Head of State of the Federation of Malaya with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agong, 3^rd August 1957. Installed at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur, 2^nd September 1957. Became King of the Federation of Malaya with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung on the death of the incumbent, 1^st April 1960.
