BRIEF HISTORY

The state of Sungai Ujong (or Sungei Ujong) is one of the component states of the Negri Sembilan Federation. The state is of quite ancient origin. Although few written records exist, ten or eleven rulers governed over the state before 1760. It was one of the founder members of the federation in 1773. The rulers are styled Undang of Luak Sungai Ujong and serve as one of the four great electors of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of the Negri Sembilan federation. They acquired the hereditary title of Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya from the Sultan of Johor in 1760.

RULES OF SUCCESSION:
The rulers are elected by the great nobles of the state from two leading families, known as the Waris Hulu and Waris Hilir. Both families follow the Minangkabau practice of matrilineal succession.

1) Dato' Shah Bandar, who had issue:
- a) A daughter. m. Y.A.M. Dato' Ma'amor bin Inche Kasim [Waris Hulu], Dato' Shah Bandar, Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya, 14^th Undang of Luak of Sungai Ujong, CBE (b. 1880; d. 15^th December 1945, grandson of a Dato' Andika, son of Telaga Undang (mother). She had issue, two sons and three daughters - see below.

- a) Thahak [Dohak] bin Dato' Sutan Nara Haji Abu Samah, of Pantai. m. Puan Lawiyah binti Dato' Amar Setia Alwi, daughter of Dato' Alwi bin Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya Dato' Ma'amor, Dato' Amar Setia. He d. at Pantai, Seremban, 1964, having had issue, an only child - see below.

1889 - 1945 Y.A.M. Dato' Ma'amor bin Inche Kasim [Waris Hulu], Dato' Shah Bandar, Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya, 14^th Undang of Luak of Sungai Ujong, CBE (c 5.6.1926). b. 1880, grandson of a Dato' Andika, son of Telaga Undang (mother). Elected and installed as Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya and 14^th Undang of Luak of Sungai Ujong, 1889. Reigned under a Council of Regency until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers, 1898. Rcvd: Silver Jubilee (1935) and Coron (1937) medals. m. a daughter of Dato' Shah Bandar, and grand-daughter of Y.A.M. Dato' Muhammad Yusuf bin Hashim, Dato' Lela Setia and Dato' Shah Bandar, Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya, 13^th Undang of Luak of Sungai Ujong. He d. 15^th December 1945, having had issue two sons and three daughters:

1) Dato' Alwi bin Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya Dato' Ma'amor, Dato' Amar Setia, educ. Malay Coll., Kuala Kangsar. He had issue, a daughter:
- a) Puan Lawiyah binti Dato' Amar Setia Alwi. m. Dohak [Thahak] bin Dato' Sutan Nara Haji Abu Samah (d. at Pantai, Seremban, 1964), son of Haji Abu Samah, Dato' Sutan Nara, and grandson of Y.A.M. Dato' Muhammad Yusuf bin Hashim, Dato' Lela Setia and Dato' Shah Bandar,Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya, 13^th Undang of Luak of Sungai Ujong. She had issue, an only child:
  - i) Y.T.M. Dato' Haji Mubarak bin Dohak, Dato' Shah Bandar, 16^th Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya of Luak Sungai Ujong- see below.

Malay Sch., Pantai, and Malay Coll., Kuala Kangsar. Land Office Seremban 1926-1935, Financial clerk CEB at Kuala Lumpur 1936-1937, Forest Office 1937-1938, Kuala Pilah 1938, Chief Accountant CEB. Elected as 15^th Undang of Luak Sungai Ujong and Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya, 27^th March 1946. Installed at the Balai Undang, Ampangan, 25^th January 1951. Vice-Presdt. National Shooting Assoc. of Malaysia, Chair. Negri Sembilan Transport Ltd, etc. Rcvd: DTNS (24.5.1979). m. (first) Che' Rapen binti Kassim. m. (second) Y.M. To' Puan Rafeah binti Muhammad Rashid. He d. at Balai Undang, Seramban, 23^rd October 1983, having had issue, five children.

1993 Y.T.M. Dato' Haji Mubarak bin Dohak, Dato' Shah Bandar, 16^th Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya of Luak Sungai Ujong. b. at Kampung Telaga Undang, Pantai, Seremban, 11^th November 1961, only child of Dohak [Thahak] bin Dato' Sutan Nara Haji Abu Samah, by his wife, Puan Lawiyah binti Dato' Amar Setia Alwi, educ. King George V Primary and Secondary Schs. (MCE 1978). Served with Bank Bumiputra at Kuala Pilah 1980-1984, and at Seremban 1984-1993. Installed as 16^th Dato' Klana Petra Sri Jaya, 29^th December 1993. Rcvd: DTNS (1993). m. 31^st March 1984, Y.M. To' Puan Noor Hashimah binti Abu Bakar (b. 1962), daughter of Encik Abu Bakar, of Kampung Bukit Gombang, Batu Kikir. He has issue, two sons and three daughters:

1) Ahmad Nazir bin Dato' Mubarak. b. 1990.
2) Ahmad Shahfiq bin Dato' Mubarak. b. 1996.
