1844 - 1857 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ali 'Ala ud-din Ri'ayat Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ja'afar 'Ala ud-din Shah [Raja 'Ali II], Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau. b. 1809, second son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Ja'afar 'Ala ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Raja Haji, Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau, by his second wife, Y.M. Raja Saleha binti al-Marhum Sultan 'Ali 'Ala ud-din Shah, Tengku Lebar, educ. privately. Appointed as Heir Apparent by his elder brother, and granted the title of Engku Kelana JayaPutra. Appointed by the government of the NEI as Viceroy (Yang di-Pertuan Muda) with the title of Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ala ud-din Ri'ayat Shah, in succession to his elder half-brother, 26th June 1844. Installed by Sultan Mahmud IV, at Lingga, 20th July 1845. m. (first) 17th August 1826, Y.M. Raja Siti binti Raja Idris [Engku Darat], third daughter of his uncle, Y.M. Raja Idris bin Raja Haji, by a junior wife. m. (second) Che' Puan Salama. m. (third) Y.M. Encik Ungku Puan Sulung binti Dato' Temenggong Tun 'Abdu'l Rahman, Raja Ampuan, elder daughter of H.H. Sri Paduka Daing 'Abdu'l Rahman bin Dato' Temenggong Sri Maharaja Tun 'Abdu'l Hamid, Dato' Temenggong Sri Maharaja, by his second wife, Encik Ungku Wuk binti Raja Sulaiman, younger daughter of Y.M. Raja Sulaiman bin Arung Lingga. m. (fourth) at Lingga, 1835, Y.M. Encik Ungku Puan Aisha ['Isah] binti Dato' Temenggong Tun 'Abdu'l Rahman, Raja Ampuan Kechil (m. second, Y.M. Sayyid Ja'afar, by whom she had further issue, two sons), younger daughter of H.H. Sri Paduka Daing 'Abdu'l Rahman bin Dato' Temenggong Sri Maharaja Tun 'Abdu'l Hamid, Dato' Temenggong Sri Maharaja, by his second wife, Encik Ungku Wuk binti Raja Sulaiman, younger daughter of Y.M. Raja Sulaiman bin Arung Lingga. m. (fifth) Y.M. Raja Khalija binti Raja 'Ali Haji, second daughter of Y.M. Raja 'Ali Haji bin Raja Ahmad, by his first wife, Encik Sulung, a commoner. He d. at the Istana Kampong Bulang, Penyengat Island, 23rd June 1857 (bur. there), having had issue, seven sons and seven daughters:

Paduka Sri Sultan Ja'afar 'Ala ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Raja Haji, Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau, by his second wife, Y.M. Raja Saleha binti al-Marhum Sultan 'Ali 'Ala ud-din Shah, Tengku Lebar. Proclaimed as Viceroy (Yang di-Pertuan Muda) in succession to his elder half-brother, by the Dutch authorities, at Tanjong Pinang, 9th October 1857. Leader of the Nakshahbandiyyah Mystic Order. m. (first) after April 1827, H.H. Raja Lijah binti al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Shah, Tengku Ampuan, daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Muhammad Shah ibni al-Marhum Ibrahim, Sultan of Selangor. m. (second) at Lingga, December 1831, H.H. Tengku Tengah Aisha binti al-Marhum Sultan 'Abdu'l Rahman Mu'azzam Shah (d. 1840), second daughter H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Abdu'l Rahman I Mu'azzam Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Shah Alam, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Lingga, Riau and its dependencies. m. (third) after the death of his second wife, Y.M. Raja Hawa bin Raja Ahmad, younger daughter of Y.M. Raja Haji Ahmad Hitam bin Raja Haji, Engku Haji Tua. m. (fourth) after 1838, Y.M. Raja Khalifa binti Raja Haji, daughter of Y.M. Raja Haji ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ibrahim, of Selangor. He d. at Penyengat Island, 6th September 1858 (bur. there), having had issue, ten sons and seven daughters:

1858 - 1899 H.H. Paduka Sri Raja Muhammad Yusuf al-Mahdi ibni al-Marhum Sultan ‘Ali ‘Ala ud-din Ri’ayat Shah, Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau, third son of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan ‘Ali ‘Ala ud-din Ri’ayat Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ja’afar ‘Ala ud-din Shah, Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau, by his first wife, Y.M. Raja Siti binti Raja Idris [Engku Darat], educ. privately. Appointed by the government of the Netherlands East Indies as Viceroy (Yang di-Pertuan Muda) in succession to his paternal uncle, 7th November 1858. Installed at the Istana Kampong Bulang, Penyengat Island, 15th January 1859. Joint Regent of Lingga, Riau and dependencies during the minority of his son 13th October 1883-18th February 1885. Rcvd: Knt 3rd class of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. m. (first) ca 1837, Encik Zalikha (or Isa/Aishah?), daughter of an aristocrat from Indragiri. m. (second) at Lingga, 1847 (sep.), H.H. Tengku Embong Fatima binti al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Muzaffar Shah, Tengku Ampuan (d. at Penyengat Island, 20th September 1893, bur. there at Bukit Penggawa), Joint Regent of Lingga, Riau and dependencies during the minority of her son 13th October 1883-18th February 1885, only daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Mahmud IV Muzaffar Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Mu’azzam Shah, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Lingga, Riau and dependencies, by his first wife, H.H. Tengku Maimuna binti Tengku Muhammad Hitam, Tengku Ampuan, daughter of Y.A.M. Tengku Muhammad Hitam ibni al-Marhum Sultan Husain Mu’azzam Shah, Tengku Besar Selat, of Johor-Singapore. m. (a) Si Nur [Nur Siah], a commoner. He d. at Istana Damnah, Robat, Lingga, 17th July 1899 (bur. there at Merah Cemetery), having had issue, four sons and eight daughters:
