The Prince of Hlaing may also have had a further son. Neither he, nor his mother, appear in the detailed genealogy of living and deceased members of the dynasty dated 1866, and should consequently be regarded as supposititious. Probably one more of the several fictitious princes who emerged from time to time, gathered a band of disgruntled followers in the countryside, and caused either mild irritation or serious concern to the central authorities, depending on the size of following they managed to convince. This one perhaps more easily dealt with by the British authorities by the award of a small pension and exile. The family is given here purely as a matter of record, due to the frequent appearances of fanciful claims on the internet and in the press:
f) ? Prince (Hteik Tin) John William Mowng Lat, “Tsatkyawaddi Min”. b. at Amarapura, Mandalay, March 1852 (s/o the “Hleine” Prince, by Me Eepu, Kempoo of Hanthawadi who d. 1860). Supposedly smuggled out of the palace by his mother, following the death of the Prince of Hlaing, then hidden at Pangoon-yah, near Thyetmo. He rebelled in 1872, was captured by the British and deported to Aden in 1873, where he tried to commit suicide, then removed to Cannanore, India in 1875, then to Bangalore 1888, Madras 1906 and allowed to return to Burma in 1928. Baptized at St John’s Church, Cannanore, India, as John William Moong Lat on 31st March 1878. m. at St John’s Church, Cannanore, Madras Presidency, 29th April 1878, Evalina Augusta (b. 1861; d. at Madras, India, 7th June 1945, bur. ther at St Thomas’s Mount), daughter of Thomas William Godfrey, by his wife, Henrietta Godfrey, sometime Principal of the Montessori Sch, Cannanore. He d. at East Lynne, Insein, Burma, 20th January 1936 (bur. there at Kemedine Cemetery), having had issue, four sons and four daughters:
i) Rupert Alexander George Mowng Lat. b. at
Cannanore, Madras Presidency, 2nd May 1886. Employed with the Indian Salt Dept. m. and had issue, two sons, the younger of whom had a daughter before his grandfather’s death.
ii) Egbert Alexander Grenville James Mowng Lat. b. at Cannanore, Madras Presidency, 13th August 1887. He d. there, 19th August 1887 (bur. St John’s Churchyard, Cannanore).
iii) Victor Ernest Lancelot Mowng Lat. b. at Bangalore, Madras, India, 21st April 1893. Burma govt service.
iv) Richard William Vernon Mowng Lat [Ritchie]. b. at Bangalore, Madras, India, 3rd December 1897. Served as Seaman MN during the Great War 1914-1918 (discharge no 914506) and later in Burma govt. service. Rcvd: British War, and Mercantile Marine medals. m. at Canton, St John, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, 1920, Mabel Greatorex (b. 1895; d. at Greenwich, London, 1922).
i) Eunice Augusta Mowng Lat. b. at Cannanore, Madras, India, 7th February 1882.
ii) Violet Eveline Mowng Lat [Kitty]. b. at Bangalore, Madras, India, 13th April 1891. She d. young.
iii) Marguerite Florence Evelyn Mowng Lat. b. at Bangalore, Madras, India, 20th August 1894. She d. at Norwich, London, 1966.
iv) Alexandrina Victoria Evelyn Mowng Lat [Mrs Rina Bootman]. b. at Bangalore, Madras, India, 24th January 1899. Evacuated to Calcutta in April 1942 and settled in England. m. 11th August 1931, Leonard Daniel Bootman (b. at Hartismere, Suffolk, December 1895), late Marine Engineer MN, served in the Great War and Second World War, retd 19/3/1947, rcvd: British War, Mercantile Marine, 39/45 Star, Atlantic Star, War and Defence medals, son of William Bootman, of Hartismere, Suffolk, by his wife, Rosa, daughter of Maria Stone. She d. 1992, having had issue, two daughters:
