1857 - 1898 H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Sir 'Abdu'l Samad Shah ibni al-Marhum Tengku 'Abdu'llah, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the State of Selangor Dar ul-Ihsan, KCMG (29.5.1886). b. 1804, eldest son of Y.A.M. Raja 'Abdu'llah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ibrahim, Tengku Panglima Besar, by his second wife, Che' Lipah, educ. privately. Invested with the title of Tengku Panglima Raja 1844. Succeeded on the death of his paternal uncle and father-in-law, 6th January 1857. Reigned under the Regency of his uncle until he came of age and was installed with full ruling powers, 1859. Entered into a Treaty of Federation to form the Federated Malay States July 1895. Received a Sword of Honour from Queen Victoria in 1879, in gratitude for the rapid abolition of debt slavery. Paduka Sri Sultan Muhammad Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ibrahim, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Selangor, by his second wife Raja Aisha binti Sultan 'Ali 'Ala ud-din Shah, fifth daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan 'Ali I 'Ala ud-din Shah ibni al-Marhum Raja Kambodja, Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Riau. m. (second) before 8th November 1874, … m. (third) at the Istana Bandar Temasha, Jugra, Kuala Langat, 1887, Che' Fatima binti Haji 'Abdu'l Ghani, daughter of Imam Haji 'Abdu'l Ghani, of Klang. He d. at the Istana Bandar Temasha, Jugra, Kuala Langat, 6th February 1898 (bur. there at the Sultan 'Abdu'l Samad Mausoleum), having had issue, six sons and four daughters:

Paduka Sri Sultan Sir 'Ala ud-din Sulaiman Shah ibni al-Marhum Yang di-Pertuan Muda Musa [Marhum 'Atiqu'llah], Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the State of Selangor Dar ul-Ihsan, GCMG (3.6.1929, KCMG 1.1.1912, CMG 29.6.1906), KCVO (27.10.1936). b. at Kuala Selangor, 11th September 1863, eldest son of H.H. Raja Musa ibni al-Marhum Sultan Sir 'Abdu'l Samad Shah, Yang di-Pertuan Muda, by his first wife, Y.M. Raja Buntal Raimah binti Raja Barkat [Encik' Uti'], elder daughter of Y.M. Raja Barkat bin Raja Husain, Tengku Panglima Raja, educ. Raffles Institution, Singapore, and The Rajas' Sch., Kuala Lumpur. Appointed as Heir Apparent with the title of Raja Muda, 10th December 1887. Succeeded on the death of his father, 6th February 1898. Installed at the Istana Bandar, Jugra, Kuala Langat, 17th February 1898. Removed his capital to Klang in 1903. Crowned at the Istana Mahkota Puri, Klang, 22nd October 1903. Hon. Col. Selangor Btn., MVF, 18/6/1919. Hon. Col. 2nd (Selangor) Btn. Malay States Vol. Regt. 1/8/1931-1938. Tunku Zia ud-din ibni al-Marhum Sultan Zain al-Rashid al-Mu'azzam Shah [Tunku Kudin] of Kedah, sometime Viceroy of Selangor, by his wife, Y.A.M. Tunku 'Arfah binti al-Marhum Sultan Sir 'Abdu'l Samad Shah, daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Sultan Sir 'Abdu'l Samad Shah ibni al-Marhum Tunku 'Abdu'llah, Sultan of Selangor, KCMG. m. (second) ca. 1895, Cik Hasnah binti Pilong (bur. Royal Mausoleum, Jugra, Kuala Langat), née Cik Amina binti Pilong, a commoner. m. Maulana Paduka Sri Sultan Sir 'Abdu'l-Jalil Nasir ud-din al-Mukhataram Shah Radiu'llah ibni al-Marhum Paduka Sri Sultan Sir Idris Murshid al-Azzam Shah Rahmatu'llah, Sultan of Perak, KCMG, by his wife, H.H. Yong Safiah binti Muhammad Yunus, Raja Permaisuri. m. (seventh) ca. 1910, Cik Maimuna binti 'Abdu'llah [Cik Mon], Cik Anjung Negara (b. ca. 1900; d. 22nd February 1972). m. Maulana Paduka Sri Sultan Sir Idris Murshid al-Azzam Shah Rahmatu'llah ibni al-Marhum Raja Bendahara Alang Iskandar, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the State of Perak, GCMG, GCVO, by his second wife, H.H. Cik Haji Ngah Uteh Mariah binti Haji Sulaiman, Tengku Permaisuri, daughter of Haji Cik Sulaiman. m. (tenth) ca 1925, Y.M. Raja Bulat binti Raja Ahmad (b. 1907; d. 10th January 1982). m. (eleventh) ca 1933, Cik Johari binti 'Abdu'llah (d. 7th January 1981). He d. at the Istana Mahkota Negara, Klang, 31st March 1938 (bur. Sultan Sulaiman Royal Mausoleum, Klang), having had issue, twenty-six sons and nineteen daughters:
