Paduka Sri Tuanku ‘Abdu’l Rahman ibni al-Marhum Tuanku Muhammad, Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, GCMG, by his first wife, Y.M. Tunku Mahar un-nisa binti Tengku Membang, sometime Tuanku Ampuan, educ. Malay Sch, Sri Menanti, Malay Coll, Kuala Kangsar, Perak, King George V Sch, Seramban, and the Sch of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS), London. Invested with the title of Tunku Muda of Serting by his father 6th July 1934, and prom to Tunku Laksamana 25th April 1937. ADC to his father 1936, Cmsnd as 2nd-Lieut 3rd (Negri Sembilan) Btn Btn Federated Malay States Volunteer Force (FMSVF)1937, retd 1939, attaché Land Office Seremban 1949-1950, Officer Negri Sembilan Home Guard in Kuala Pilah 1952-1955, District Home Guard Officer for Tampin 1955-1956 and Kuala Pilah 1956-1957. Served as Regent of Negri Sembilan during the absence of his father overseas 31st August 1954 to November 1954 and in Kuala Lumpur, 3rd September 1957 to 5th April 1960. Proclaimed as Yang di-Pertuan Besar after the death of his father, 5th April 1960. Installed at the Balairong Sri, Istana Besar, Sri Menanti, 17th April 1961. Sri Menanti Malay Sch, and Tuanku Muhammad Sch, Kuala Pilah, raised to the title of Tunku Ampuan Muda 6th October 1957, proclaimed as Tuanku Ampuan of Negri Sembilan by her husband at the Balairong Sri, Istana Besar, Sri Menanti, 14th April 1961 and installed with him at the Balairong Sri, Istana Besar, Sri Menanti, 17th April 1961, Chair Negri Sembilan Poppy Day Appeal Cttee 1957-1967, Patron Negri Sembilan Branch of the Malayan Soc for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, etc, rcvd: DKNS, fifth daughter of Y.A.M. Tunku Burhan ud-din ibni al-Marhum Tuanku Antah, Tunku Besar, CMG, by his first wife, Y.M. Tunku Sharifa Alawiya binti Sayyid ‘Abdu’l Hamid, eldest daughter of Y.M. Granted the title of Tunku Muda of Serting, 1947. Proclaimed as Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan on the death of his brother, 19th April 1967. Installed at the Balairong Sri, Istana Besar, Sri Menanti, 8th April 1968. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State with the title of Timbalan Yang di-Pertuan Agong, 19th June 1979 and served in that capacity until 25th April 1984. Elected as Deputy Supreme Head of State for a second time, 2nd March 1989. Elected as King of Malaysia with the title of Yang di-Pertuan Agung and style of Majesty from 16th April 1994. Left office and returned to Negri Sembilan, 24th April 1999. Col-in-Chief the Royal Signal Regiment. Chancellor National Univ of Malaysia (1996). Patron of Negri Sembilan Cricket Assoc.
