GENEALOGY

1717 - 1727 Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, 'Ala ud-Daula, Nawab Ja'afar Khan Bahadur Nasiri, Nasir Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal and Orissa. Born a poor Brahmin in the Deccan, bought by Haji Shafi' Isfahani, a merchant from Isfahan, converted and renamed Muhammad Hadi. He entered the service of Haji 'Abdu'llah, Diwan of Berar, later transferring to Royal service under Emperor Aurangzeb. Diwan of Hyderabad, Bengal 1700-1708 & 1710-1713, of Bihar, and of the Deccan 1708-1710, Naib Nazim of Bengal 1713-1717, Subadar of Orissa 1714, and Nazim of Bengal 1717. Removed his headqaurters from Dacca to Makhsusabad in 1703, and renamed it Murshidabad in 1717. Granted the titles of Kurtulab Khan, Murshid Quli Khan Bahadur, and finally Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, 'Ala ud-Daula, Nawab Ja'afar Khan Bahadur, Asad Jang 1713. m. Nasiri Banu Begum Sahiba (d. at Kulhoria Palace, Murshidabad, before 13th June 1733 (bur. Jutapatty). He d. at Kulhoria Palace, Murshidabad, 30th June 1727 (bur. under the stairs to the terrace of the Katra Masjid), having had issue:

1727 and 1739-1740 Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, 'Ala ud-Daula, Nawab Sarfaraz Khan Bahadur, Haidar Jang [Mirza Asadu'llah], Nawab Nazim of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, elder son of Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, Shuja ud-Daula, Nawab Muhammad Shuja Khan Bahadur, Asad Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa, by his first wife, Zainab un-nisa Begum Sahiba, daughter of Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, 'Ala ud-Daula, Nawab Murshid Quli Ja'afar Khan Bahadur Nasiri, Nasir Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal and Orissa, educ. privately. Raised to the title of Sarfaraz Khan 1720. Diwan Suba Bengal 1720-1726. Succeeded on the death of his maternal grandfather, 30th June 1727. Deposed in favour of his own father, July 1727. Succeeded on his death, 13th March 1739. He was k. in battle by Nawab Alahvirdi Khan, at Giria, 26th April 1740 (bur. Naginabagh), having had issue, five sons and five daughters:
