GENEALOGY

1717 - 1727 Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, 'Ala ud-Daula, Nawab Ja'afar Khan Bahadur Nasiri, Nasir Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal and Orissa. Born a poor Brahmin in the Deccan, bought by Haji Shafi' Isfahani, a merchant from Isfahan, converted and renamed Muhammad Hadi. He entered the service of Haji 'Abdu'llah, Diwan of Berar, later transferring to Royal service under Emperor Aurangzeb. Diwan of Hyderabad, Bengal 1700-1708 & 1710-1713, of Bihar, and of the Deccan 1708-1710, Naib Nazim of Bengal 1713-1717, Subadar of Orissa 1714, and Nazim of Bengal 1717. Removed his headqaurters from Dacca to Makhsusabad in 1703, and renamed it Murshidabad in 1717. Granted the titles of Kurtulab Khan, Murshid Quli Khan Bahadur, and finally Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, 'Ala ud-Daula, Nawab Ja'afar Khan Bahadur, Asad Jang 1713. m. Nasiri Banu Begum Sahiba (d. at Kulhoria Palace, Murshidabad, before 13^th June 1733 (bur. Jutapatty). He d. at Kulhoria Palace, Murshidabad, 30^th June 1727 (bur. under the stairs to the terrace of the Katra Masjid), having had issue:

• 1) Nawabzada Yahya Khan. Who entered the service of the Nawab of the Carnatic.
• 1) Azmat un-nisa Begum Sahiba [Zinat un-nisa] (d/o Nasiri Banu Begum). m. before 1712, as his second wife, Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, Shuja ud-Daula, Nawab Shuja ud-din Muhammad Khan Bahadur, Asad Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa (b. at Berhampur, 16xx; d. at Murshidabad, 13^th March 1739), son of Mirza Nur ud-din Afshar, of Khorasan, and a descendant of 'Ali Yar Sultan, Governor of Farah during the reign of Shah Tahmasp. She d. at Murshidabad (bur. Azimnagar Masjid), having had issue - see below.
• 2) Zainab un-nisa Begum Sahiba. m. as his first wife, Mu'tamad ul-Mulk, Shuja ud-Daula, Nawab Shuja ud-din Muhammad Khan Bahadur, Asad Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa (b. at Berhampur, 16xx; d. at Murshidabad, 13^th March 1739), son of Mirza Nur ud-din Afshar, of Khorasan, and a descendant of 'Ali Yar Sultan, Governor of Farah during the reign of Shah Tahmasp - see below.

• 1) Mirza Hafizu'llah Khan. m. a daughter of Husain 'Ali Khan. He d. at Jahangirnagar, November 1771, having had issue one daughter:
  • a) Nadira Begum Sahiba. m. Fazlu'llah Khan, son of 'Azad ul-Mulk, Ikram ud-Daula, Nawab 'Atau'llah Khan Bahadur, Sabit Jang, sometime Faujdar of Akbarnagar and Bhagalpur, by his wife, Rabia Begum Sahiba, daughter of Haji Mirza Ahmad. She had issue, a daughter.

• 5) Shukru'llah Khan [Mirza Aga Baba]. b. on the day of his father's death, 29^th April 1740 (s/o a concubine), educ. privately. Adopted by his paternal aunt, Nafissa Begum Sahiba. Exiled to Dacca by Siraj ud-Daula in 1756. m. (nikah) at Murshidabad, before 28^th October 1753, a daughter of Nasir ul-Mulk, Ihtisham ud-Daula, Nawab Nawazish Muhammad Khan Bahadur, Shahamat Jang, sometime Diwan of Bengal and Naib Nazim of Dacca, by his wife, Mihar un-nisa Begum Sahiba [Ghasiti Begum], daughter of H.H. Shuja ul-Mulk, Husam ud-Daula, Nawab Muhammad Alahvirdi Khan Bahadur, Mahabat Jang, Nawab Nazim of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa.
• 1) A daughter m. before 1739, Nawab Ghazanfar Husain Khan Bahadur, son of her paternal uncle, Mirza Muhammad Taqi Khan Bahadur, sometime Naib Nazim of Orissa - see below.
• 2) A daughter. m. Hasan Muhammad Khan.
• 3) A daughter. m. Murad 'Ali Khan.
• 4) A daughter. m. Yusuf 'Ali (d. 1770), author of "Ahwal-i-Mahabat Jang", "Hadiqat us-Safa", and "Majmu'a-i-Yusufi", son of Ghulam 'Ali, sometime Collector of Crown Lands. She had issue, a daughter:
  • a) Jariat uz-Zohra Begum. m. 'Ali Ibrahim Khan (d. at Benares, 31^st August 1793), Chief Magistrate of Benares 1781-1793, author of "Tarikh-i-Ibrahim Khan" (1786).
• 5) One other daughter, prisoner of Nawab Alahvirdi Khan at Dacca.
