GENEALOGY
1847-1862 H.H. Maharao
Shri Sheo Singhji Bahadur, Rao Sahib of Sirohi, third and
youngest son of H.H. Maharao Shri Verisal II Bahadur, Rao
Sahib of Sirohi, educ. privately. Granted Nandia
in jagir by his father. He assumed effective
control over the government and the exercise of ruling
powers in 1819. Entered into a treaty of "defensive
alliance, perpetual friendship, protection and
subordinate co-operation" with the HEIC, 11th
September 1823 (ratified 31st October 1823).
Recognised in that treaty as Rao Regent for life,
with the state guaranteed to the legitimate heirs of his
elder brother, Maharao Udaibhan Singhji. He prohibited
the slave trade in 1844 and prohibited the barbaric
practices of chandi and samadhi in 1848
(made criminal offences in 1868). Leased Mount Abu to the
British in 1845. Succeeded on the death of his elder
brother, who died without male issue, 11th
January 1847. Formally installed on the gadi at
the Fort, Sirohi, 13th January 1847. The state
fell into serious arrears and accumulated huge debts,
forcing the Maharao to appoint a British Superintendent
over state affairs 15th May 1854, replaced by
the General Council of Administration with his second son
as President in November 1861. Granted a sanad of
adoption by the Viceroy of India, 11th March
1862. m. (first) 1813, H.H. Rani Shri Sardar
Kunwar Sahiba. m. (second) 1815, H.H. Rani Shri
Suraj Kunwar Sahiba. m. (third) 1821, H.H.
Rani Shri Chatur Kunwar Sahiba. m. (fourth) 1826,
H.H. Rani Shri Jas Kanwar Sahiba. m. (fifth) 1830,
H.H. Rani Shri Abhaya Kunwar Sahiba. m. (sixth)
1833, H.H. Rani Shri Daulat Kunwar Sahiba. He d.
at Sirohi, 8th December 1862, having had
issue, seven sons and five daughters:

Maharao Shri Umed Singhji Bahadur, Rao Sahib of Sirohi. b.
at the Fort, Sirohi, 1833, second son of H.H. Maharao
Shri Sheo Singhji Bahadur, Rao Sahib of Sirohi, by his
fifth wife, H.H. Rani Shri Abhaya Kunwar Sahiba, educ.
privately. Mbr. Cncl. of Superintendence 1854-1861,
Presdt. of the General Council of Administration from
November 1861. He rendered services to the Government of
India during the Mutiny in 1857-8 and received a
remission of half the state tribute of Rs 15,000 and all
existing arrears. Granted a sanad of adoption, 12th
March 1862. Succeeded on the death of his father, 8th
December 1862. Reigned under the General Council of
Administration, until most of the state debts were
cleared, then invested with full ruling powers on 1st
September 1865. m. at Ahmadnagar, as his only
wife, H.H. Rathorji Rani Sahib, elder daughter of H.H.
Shri Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Sir Jawansinhji
Gambhirsinhji Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Idar, KCSI, by
his second wife, H.H. Maharani Ba Shri Kunverji Bai
Sahiba, daughter of H.H. Maharao Shri Daisulji II Sinhji
Sahib Bahadur, Rao of Cutch. He d. at Sirohi, 16th
September 1875, having had issue, one son and one
