GENEALOGY

1632 - 1648 Rao Madho Singh Hada, Rao of Kotah. b. at Bundi, 18^th May 1599, second son of Sarbuland Rai Ramraja Maharao Rattan Sahib Bahadur, Maharao of Haravati, educ. privately. Entered the Mughal service and served with distinction with the Imperial forces in a number of campaigns. Appointed to an Imperial mansab of 1,000 zat and 600 sowar in 1627, prom. to 2,000 zat and 1,000 sowar 1631, prom. to 2,500 zat and 1,500 sowar 1632, prom. to 3,000 zat and 1,600 sowar 1635, prom. to 2,000 sowar 1637, prom. to 2,500 sowar 1641, prom. to 3,000 sowar 1643. Granted the parganas of Kotah and Palaitha by Emperor Shah Jahan for his distinguished services at the Battle of Burhanpur, 1632. Appointed to several important posts includin those of Subadar of Burhanpur 1633-1637, and Killedar of Balkh 1645-1647. m. several wives. He d. at Kotah Fort, before 27^th January 1648, having had issue, seven sons and seven daughters, including:

1) Rao Shri Mukund Singh, Rao of Kotah - see below.
2) Apji Mohan Singh, of Palaitha, educ. privately. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 800 zat and 400 sowar. He was k. in action at the field of Ujjain, near Dharmatpur, 26^th April 1658, having had issue (founder of the Palaitha family).
3) Apji Kanhi Ram, of Koila, Dah and Gura, educ. privately. He was in action at the field of Ujjain, near Dharmatpur, 26^th April 1658, having had issue:

4) Apji Jujhar Singh, of Kotra, Ramgarh and Rilawan, educ. privately. He was k. in action at the field of Ujjain, near Dharmatpur, 26^th April 1658.

1648 - 1658 Rao Shri Mukund Singh, Rao of Kotah, eldest son of Rao Madho Singh Hada, Rao of Kotah, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1648. Invested by the Emperor Aurangzeb in person at Delhi, May 1648. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 2,000 zat and 1,500 sowar 1648, prom. to 2,000 sowar 1649, prom. to 2,500 zat 1652, prom. to of 3,000 zat 1653. Distinguished himself in the campaigns of Kandahar, Lahore, and in Malwa. He was k. in action at the field of Ujjain, near Dharmatpur, 26^th April 1658, having had issue:

1) Rao Shri Jagat Singh, Rao of Kotah - see below.
2) Shri Hadiji Rani Sahiba. m. Raja Shri Ram Singh I Bahadur, Raja of Amber (b. 22^nd August 1692; d. at Kohat, 10^th April 1688), eldest son of 'Umdat ul-Umara, Mirza Raja Shri Jai Singh I Bahadur, Raja of Amber, by his fifth wife, Shri Jodoonji Rani Anand Kanwar Sahiba, daughter of the Raja of Karauli - see India (Jaipur).

1658 - 1682 Rao Shri Jagat Singh, Rao of Kotah. b. 1644, son of Rao Shri Mukund Singh, Rao of Kotah, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 26^th April 1658. Invested by Emperor Aurangzeb in person, at Delhi, August 1658. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 1,500 zat and 1,000 sowar in 1658, and prom. to 2,000 zat by Emperor Aurangzeb. He was k. in battle (s.p.) in the Deccan, between 4^th September 1681 and 23^rd August 1682.

1682 - 1683 Rao Shri Prem Singh, Rao of Kotah, son of Apji Kanhi Ram, of Koila, Dah and Gura, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his cousin, 1682, but was deposed by the Council of Nobles after ruling for six months, February 1683. He left issue.

1683 - 1696 Rao Shri Kishore Singh, Rao of Kotah, youngest son of Rao Shri Madho Singh Hada, Rao of Kotah, educ. privately. Served with his elder brother at the Battle of Ujjain, wounded but survived his wounds and recovered. Succeeded on the deposition of his nephew, February 1683. Installed on the gadi, October/November 1683. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 500 zat and 200 sowar in 1654, prom. to 600 zat 1656, leter prom. to 2,500 zat and 3,000 sowar. Served with distinction at the siege of Bijapur in 1685-1686. He was k. at the escalade of Arcot, April 1696, having had issue, four sons:

1) Apji Shri Bishan Singh, of Anta. Became Heir Apparent at birth, subsequently disinherited by his father for disobeying his ordersand not accompanying him to the South in 1696. He d. 1701, having had issue:
- a) Apji Shri Prithvi Singh, of Anta. He had issue, five sons:
  - i) Apji Shri Bhopal Singh, of Anta.
  - ii) H.H. Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Mahimahendra Maharao Raja Shri Ajit Singhji I Sahib Bahadur, Maharao Raja of Kotah - see below.

  - iv) Apji Shri Bakht Singh, of Itawa. Ancestor of the Maharaj Sahibs of Kherli ->
  - v) Apji Shri Chain Singh, of Sorkhand. He had issue, two sons:
    - (1) Apji Shri Sahab Singh, of Mundli. Ancestor of the Maharaj Sahibs of Mundli ->.
    - (2) Apji Shri Pratap Singh, of Sorkhand. He had issue, two sons:
      - (a) Maharaj Shri Bhagwant Singh Sahib. He had issue, two sons:
        
        (i) Maharaj Chagan Singh Sahib, of Kotra. Adopted by his childless paternal uncle, Rao Shivnath Singh, and succeeded to his Kotra estates on his death. m. Maharani Chaman Kunwar, daughter of Thakur Sahib Singh Chandrawat. He had issue, two sons:
        
        1. Maharaj Shri Jai Singh Sahib, of Bamolia. b. at Kotra, 1872, educ. Mayo Coll., Ajmer. He had issue, a dauhter:
        
        a. Rajkumari Rup Kunverba Sahiba [Rani Bai Shri Rup Kunverba Sahiba, of Cutch]. m. at Bhuj, 5^th November 1913, Maharaj Shri Godjisinhji [Manubha] Sahib (b. at Prag Mahal, Bhuj, 12^th September 1888), second son of Colonel H.H. Maharajadhiraj Maharao Mirza Shri Khengarji III Sawai Bahadur, Maharao of Cutch, GCSI, GCIE, by his first wife, H.H. Saylawala Maharani Bai Shri Motiba Sahib, younger daughter of Meherban Dostan Thakore Shri Vakhatsinhji Keshrisinhji Sahib, Chief of Sayla, CSI. She had issue, four sons and one daughter - see India (Cutch).
        
        2. Apji Shri Udai Singh, who succeeded as H.H. Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Mahimahendra Maharao Raja Shri Sir Umed Singhji II Sahib Bahadur, Maharao Raja of Kotah (s/o Chaman Kunwar) - see below.
        
        (ii) Maharaj Dhiraj Singh Sahib, of Amli.
      - (b) Maharaj Shri Shivnath Singh, of Kotra. He d.s.p.m. having adopted his nephew, Chagan Singh - see above.
2) Apji Shri Harnath Singh. He was k. in battle against his brother, Ram Singh, 1696, having had issue, a son:
- a) Apji Shri Kushal Singh, of Sangod.
3) Raja Shri Ram Singh Sahib, Raja of Kotah - see below.
4) Apji Shri Arjun Singh.
