H.H. Ali Jah, Umdat ul-Umara, Hisam us-Sultanat, Mukhtar
ul-Mulk, Azim ul-Iqtidar, Rafi-us-Shan, Wala Shikoh,
Muhtasham-i-Dauran, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Sir
Jayaji Rao Scindia Bahadur, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman,
Fidvi-i-Hazrat-i-Malika-i-Mua'zzama-i-Rafi-ud-Darja-i-Inglistan,
Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior, GCB (m 1.1.1877), GCSI
(25.6.1861), CIE (1.1.1878). b. 19th
January 1835, as Shrimant Kumar Bhagirath Rao Scindia,
son of Shrimant Sardar Hanwant Rao Scindia, by his wife,
the sister of Shrimant Sardar Devrao Jadhav [Mama Sahib],
educ. privately. Adopted by H.H. Shrimant Akhand
Soubhagyavati Maharani Tarabai Raje Sahib, Regent of
Gwalior and widow of H.H. Maharaja Jankoji Rao Scindia, 7th
February 1843. Ascended the gadi, at Lashkar, 22nd
February 1843. Installed, 20th January 1844.
Reigned under the regency of his adopted mother until he
attained his majority, 19th January 1845.
Granted the titles of Azim ul-Iqtidar, Rafi-us-Shan,
Wala Shikoh, and Muhtasham-i-Dauran. Raised to
a permanent salute of 19-guns, 1st November
1861. Attended the Imperial Durbar at Delhi, where he
received an additional salute of 2-guns, and the rank of
a full General in the British Army, 1st
January 1877. Rcvd: Prince of Wales's gold medal
(1876) and KIH gold medal (1877). m. (first)

sometime Regent of Gwalior. m. (second) at

Maharani Lakshmibai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. at
Gwalior), daughter of Sardar Bahaji Rao Gujar, of
Ratnagiri. m. (third) at Gwalior, 29th

Maharani Babuibai Raje Sahib Scindia, alias Rajkumari
Shrimant Lakshmibai Raje Sahib Bhonsle (b. at
Sawantwadi, 27th August 1857; d. at
Gwalior, 4th September 1894), only daughter of
Shrimant Ramchandra Sawant [Bhau Sahib] Raje Sahib
Bhonsle, of Sawantwadi, by his first wife, Shrimant
Akhand Soubhagyavati Lakshmibai Raje Bhonsle, daughter of
Shrimant Hanmathrao Nimbalkar. m. (fourth)

Gwalior Lancers and of the 1st Maharani Sakhya
Raja's Own Gwalior Infantry, daughter of Sardar Sir
Krishna Rao [Bapu Sahib] Jadhav, Feroz Jang Bahadur,
KCIE. He d. at Jai Vilas Palace, Lashkar, 20th
June 1886, having had issue, five sons and four
daughters:

October 1876, fourth and eldest surviving son of General
H.H. Ali Jah, Umdat ul-Umara, Hisam us-Sultanat, Mukhtar
ul-Mulk, Azim ul-Iqtidar, Rafi-us-Shan, Wala Shikoh,
Muhtasham-i-Dauran, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Sir
Jayaji Rao Scindia Bahadur, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman,
Fidvi-i-Hazrat-i-Malika-i-Mua'zzama-i-Rafi-ud-Darja-i-Inglistan,
Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior, GCB, GCSI, CIE, by his
fourth wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani
Sakhyabai Raje Sahib Scindia Bahadur, CI, educ.
privately. Succeeded on the death of his father 20th
June 1886, and reigned under a Council of Regency, until
he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers,
15th December 1894. Granted a personal salute
of 21-guns, 12th December 1911 (made
hereditary 1917). Served in the Tirah expedition 1896,
Hon. Col. IA 21/5/1898, served in the Boxer rebellion as
Orderly Ofcr. to GOC British Forces in North China 1901,
prom. Hon. Maj-Gen. 1/1/1910, and Hon Lieut-Gen.
1/1/1918. Hon Colonel 1st The Duke of York's
Own Lancers (Skinner's Horse) 1/1/1906. Hon Extra ADC to
the King-Emperors Edward VII 1/7/1901 and George V
4/6/1910. Colonel-in-Chief of the 3rd Maharaja
Madho Scindia's Own Gwalior Lancers and of the 3rd
Maharaja Madho Scindia's Own Gwalior Infantry. Attended
the Coronation of the King-Emperor Edward VII at
Westminster Abbey in Lodnon 1902, Delhi Durbar in 1903,
Coronation of the King-Emperor George V in 1911, and
Delhi Durbar in 1911. Rcvd: China Medal (1901),
Coron. (1902 & 1911), and Delhi Durbar gold medals
(1903 & 1911), DGBStJ (25.11.1911), GC of the Order
of Philip the Magnanimous of Hesse (24.1.1903). m.

Sahib Scindia, CI (4.6.1928) (d. 23rd
November 1931), Regent from 5th June 1925
until her death, Colonel-in-Chief 2nd Ali Jah
Gwalior Lancers, 1902, daughter of Sardar Madho Rao
Balwant Rao [Bhau Sahib] Mohite, of Satara in the Bombay
Presidency. m. (second) at Gwalior, 8th
May 1913, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani
Gajrabai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. at Bombay 13th
January 1943), Regent and Presdt of the Council of
Regency from 23rd November 1931 to 22nd
November 1936, rcvd: Silver Jubilee (1935) and
Coron. (1937) medals, daughter of Rao Rana Shrimant
Satrojirao Vithalrao Rane [Bala Sahib], Sar Desai of
Sankli, in Goa, Portuguese India. He d. at Paris,
France, 5th June 1925 (cremated Père
La Chaise Cemetery) having had issue, one son and one
