1925 - 1961 Lieutenant-General H.H. KStJ (19.11.1937). b. at Gwalior, 26th June 1916 (for whom the King-Emperor George V stood sponsor), only son of Lieutenant-General H.H. Ali Jah, Umdat ul-Umara, Hisam us-Sultanat, Mukhtar ul-Mulk, Azim ul-Iqtidar, Rafi-us-Shan Wala Shikoh, Muhtasham-i-Dauran, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Sir Madho Rao Scindia Bahadur, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman, Fidvi-i-Hazrat-i-Malika-i-Mua'zzama-i-Rafi-ud-Darja-i-Inglistan, Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior, GCSI, GCVO, GBE, by his second wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Gajrabai Raje Sahib Scindia educ. Victoria College, Gwalior, Punjab and Bombay. Enrolled as a private soldier in the 1st 'Maharani Sakhya Raja's Own' Gwalior Infantry 1920. Succeeded on the death of his father, 5th June 1925. Reigned under a Council of Regency until he came of age, 26th June 1936. Invested with full ruling powers, 22nd November 1936. Signed the instrument of accession to the Dominion of India, 15th August 1947. Entered into a covenant with his fellow rulers by which he merged his state into the Madhya Bharat Union 15th May 1948. Installed as Rajpramukh 28th May 1948, and served in that capacity until the abolition of that office on 31st October 1956. Hon. Capt. IA 6/9/1941, prom. Hon. Besant Coll., Benares and Vikram Univs. (Hon DLitt.), MP (Lok Sabha) for Guna 1957-1962, and Gwalior 1962-1967 and 1971-1977, MLC Madhya Pradesh 1967-1971, gaoled under the "Emergency" government of Mrs. Gandhi 1975, MP (Rajya Sabha) 1978-1989, Vice-Presdt. Jana Sangh 1973 and BJP, Chancellor Sagar Univ. 1969, Presdt. Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya Sch. Brd. 1956-2001, daughter of Thakur Mahendra Singhji Sahib, of Sagar, by his first wife, Thakurani Chuda Devashwari Devi, daughter of Commanding-General H.H. Raja Khadga Shamsher Jang Bahadur, sometime C-in-C of Nepal. He d. at Bombay, 16th July 1961, having had issue, one son and four daughters:

The GOI amended the Indian Constitution to remove his position as a "ruler" and his right to receive privy-purse payments, 28th December 1971. Succeeded on the death of his father as Head of the Royal House of Gwalior, 30th September 2001. Installed at the Hanuman Mandir near the Jai Vilas Palace, Gwalior, 12th October 2001.
