1768 - 1794 H.H. Ali Jah, Umdat ul-Umara, Farzand-i-Arjumand, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Sahib Subadar Shrimant Madho Rao [Madhoji or Mahadji] Scindia Bahadur, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman, Naib ul-Istiqlal-i-Maharajadhiraj Sawai Madhav Rao Narayan, Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior. b. 1729, fifth and youngest son of Shrimant Sardar Ranoji Rao Scindia, Patil of Kanherkheda, by his second wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Chima Sahib Scindia, educ. privately. He entered the Maratha service under his father and rose to high rank as a general and, with his brothers, achieved several notable victories. Escaped alive, but severely wounded, from the field of Panipat, 7th January 1761. Seized Gwalior from the Raja of Gohad in 1765. Invested with the Sardarship, 18th January 1768. Conquered Delhi and restored Emperor Shah Alam II in 1792, in effect as his puppet. Commander of the Imperial forces and Governor of Agra and Delhi. Signed a Treaty of friendship and alliance with the HEIC, by which the latter accepted Maratha supremacy in Central India, 13th October 1781. Invested with the titles of Bakshi ul-Mamlikat, Wakil-i-Mutlaq, and Amir ul-Umara, together with the Royal insignia, 4th December 1784. Deprived of these ranks, 5th September 1787. Granted the titles of Umdat ul-Umara, Farzand-i-Arjumand, Ali Jah, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman, and Naib ul-Istiqlal-i-Maharajadhiraj Sawai Madhav Rao Narayan, 9th September 1790. m. nine wives, including (a) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Gangabai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. from illness, at Gangapur, May 1792). (b) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Lakshmibai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. post 1806). m. (c) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Bhagirathibai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. 15th August 1799). m. (d) July 1792 (?) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Yamunabai Raje Sahib Scindia (k. in bed, 14th January 1800). m. (e) at Jaumgaon, November 1792, … m. (f) morganatically, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Kesaribai Sahib. m. (g) morganatically, Ganna Begum Sahiba (bur. near Noorabad), a Muslim lady of Persian descent who used to work as his secretary in male disguise under the pseudonym of Ganna Singh. He d. from typhoid fever, at his camp at Wanavdi, near Poona, 12th February 1794 (aged 67) (succ. by his grand nephew), having had issue, three daughters:

1794 - 1827 H.H. Ali Jah, Naib Vakil-i-Mutlaq, Amir ul-Umara, Mukhtar ul-Mulk, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Daulat Rao Scindia Bahadur, Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior. b. 1779, elder son of Shrimant Sardar Anand Rao [Madaji Sahib] Scindia, by his wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Mainabai Sahib, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his great uncle and adopted father, 12th February 1794. Recognised and formally installed by the Peshwa, 3rd March 1794. Invested with the titles of Naib Vakil-i-Mutlaq, Amir ul-Umara, and Mukhtar ul-Mulk, together with the Royal insignia, 10th May 1794. Renounced his sovereignty over a large number of forts to the HEIC, his overlordship over Rajputana and Gohad, and any interference in the affairs of Delhi, by the Treaty of Sarji Anjangaon, 30th December 1803. Established his capital at Lashkar in 1810. m. (first) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Durgabai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. at Lashkar, 4th May 1812). m. (second) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Rukmabai Raje Sahib Scindia. m. (third) at Poona, 26th February 1798, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Baizabai Raje Sahib Scindia (b. 1787; d. at Gwalior, 16th September 1863), Regent from 21st March 1827 to December 1832, expelled from Gwalior in 1833, daughter of Meherban Shrimant Rajamanya Rajashri Tuljoji Rao Sakharam [Bapu Sahib] Ghatge, Sarje Rao, Chief of Kagal, by his wife, the daughter of Sardar Baji Rao Darkoji Rao Patankar. m. (fourth) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Balabai Raje Sahib Scindia. He d. at Lashkar, 21st March 1827, having had issue, one son and two daughters:

1827 - 1843 H.H. Ali Jah, Umdat ul-Umara, Hisam us-Sultanat, Mukhtar ul-Mulk, Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Jankoji Rao II Scindia Bahadur, Shrinath, Mansur-i-Zaman, Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior. b. 1805, as Mugat Rao Scindia, son of Shrimant Sardar Patloji Rao Scindia, by his wife, the sister of Ihtiram ud-Daula, Imarat Mahal, Sardar Krishnaji Rao Kadam [Mama Sahib], Muzaffar Jang Bahadur, sometime Regent of Gwalior, educ. privately. Adopted by Maharani Baizabai Raje, the widow of Maharaja Shrimant Daulat Rao Scindia after his death, 17th June and ascended the gadi 18th June 1827. Reigned under the regency of Maharani Baijabai until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers, December 1832. m. (first) at Gwalior, 17th June 1827, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Bejabai Raje Sahib Scindia, youngest daughter of Meherban Shrimant Sardar Manyabarrao Yeshwantrao Dabhade [Bapu Sahib], Sarsenapati, of Talegaon, by his wife, Maharajkumari Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Chimnabai Maharaje Sahib, eldest daughter of H.H. Ali Jah, Naib Vakil-i-Mutlaq, Amir ul-Umara, Mukhtar ul-Mulk Maharajadhiraj Maharaja Shrimant Daulat Rao Scindia Bahadur, Maharaja Scindia of Gwalior. m. (second) at Gwalior, 1835 H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Sarabai Raje Sahib Scindia (d. at Gwalior, 9th April 1838), daughter of Shrimant Sardar Yeshwant Rao Ghorpade, Senapati. m. (third) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Tarabai Raje Sahib Scindia (b. 1831), Regent for her adopted son, Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia, 21st May 1843 to 13th January 1844. He d. at Lashkar, 7th February 1843 (succ. by his adopted son), having had issue, an only son:
