Kelat, etc., King of Kartli b. after 1648, second
son of H.M. The Most High King Vakhtang V, King of
Kartli, by his first wife, H.M. The Most High Queen
Rwadam, eldest daughter of Prince Vakhtang-Orbel
Qaplanishvili-Orbeliani, educ. privately. Granted
the title of Gurgin Khan by the Shah of Persia
before his accession. Appointed a Regent during his
father's absence in Persia and granted the title of Shah
Nawaz Khan, 10th January 1676. Succeeded
on his death, September 1676. Deposed for attempting a
revolt against the Persians, 1688. Fled to Radsha and
joined his brother Archili. Restored after submitting to
the Shah in 1692. Deposed in 1695 and restored again in
July 1703. Sometime cdt. of the Imperial Corps of Pages,
Governor-General of all Georgia 1691-1695 and 1703-1709,
of Kerman 1699-1703, and Kandahar 1703-1709, Sipah
Salar (C-inC) of the Persian Armies 1699-1709. m.
(first) 1676, H.M. Queen Thamar (d. at Tiflis, 4th
December 1683, bur. Mtzkheta Monastery), daughter
of The Brilliant Prince Davit Davitishvili, son of H.H.
The Brilliant Prince Elizbar of Kakheti*. m.

High Queen Khwarashan (d. at Crcon, 24th
February 1695, bur. Kwatha-Khew), daughter of The
Brilliant Prince Giorgi Mikeliadze. He was k. by
Mir Wais Ghalzai, near Kandahar, 23rd April
1709, having had issue, one son and two daughters:

August 1660, fourth son of H.M. The Most High King
Vakhtang V, King of Kartli, by his first wife, H.M. The
Most High Queen Rwadam, eldest daughter of Prince
Vakhtang-Orbel Qaplanishvili-Orbeliani, educ.
privately. Appointed a General in the Persian Army and
commanded the Georgian troops against the Baluchis
1698-1700, Divanbegi (Lord Chief Justice) of
Persia 1701-1709. Granted the title of Shah Quli Khan
by the Shah of Persia, 1701. Lieutenant for his absent
father in Georgia, 1703-1709. Succeeded on the death of
his father, 23rd April 1709. m. (first)

father but was never crowned. He reigned in absentia
since he served during the whole of this period as Sipah
Salar (C-in-C) of the Persian Armies in Afghanistan
