GENEALOGY

Shaikh Thani bin Muhammad al-Wadhiri, son of Thamir bin ‘Ali bin Saif bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Muhammad bin Jasim bin Said bin ‘Ali bin Thamir bin Muhammad bin ‘Ali bin Madhad bin Musharaf. He d. 1860, having had issue, five sons:

1868 - 1878 Shaikh Muhammad bin Thani bin Muhammad Al-Thamir, Ruler of Qatar. b. at al-Fuwayrit, before 2nd October 1788, second son of Shaikh Thani bin Muhammad al-Wadhiri. Succeeded as head of his clan, following the death of his father, 1860. Succeeded in establishing his independence from Bahrain, 12th September 1868. Accepted Turkish suzerainty and received recognition as Qaimmaqam of Qatar, June 1871. Resigned his governorship of the tribes to his eldest son, 1876. m. Shaikha Noura Al-Kuwari, daughter of Fahd bin Muhammad bin Ghanim bin ‘Ali Al-Buafarh Kuwari. He d. at Doha, 18th December 1878, having had issue, six sons and two daughters (who assumed the name of Al-Thani):
