ORDERS AND DECORATIONS
- Nishan
al-Idris (the Order of Idris I): founded by King
Idris I in 1947. Awarded in two classes (1. Grand Collar
- reserved for Kings and Heads of Stata, and 2. Grand
Cordon - reserved for consorts of heads of state, princes
and princesses and members of the Royal Family).
Nishan al-Sayyid Muhammad ibn Ali al-Sanussi
(the High Order of Sayyid Muhammad ibn Ali al-Sanussi):
founded by King Idris I in 1951 as an award for
exceptional services. Awarded in four classes (1. First
class or Grand Cordon - limited to a handful of awards to
the highest ranking and most accomplished statesmen, 2.
Second class or Grand Officer, 3. Third class or
Commander, 4. Fourth class).

Nishan al-Istiqlal -
First class of Grand Cordon, breast star.
- Nishan
al-Istiqlal (the Order of Independence): founded by
King Idris I in 1951 as a general reward of merit to
reward services to the nation, both military and civil.
Awarded in four classes (1. First class or Grand Cordon -
limited to a handful of awards to the highest ranking and
most accomplished statesmen, 2. Second class or Grand
Officer, 3. Third class or Commander, 4. Fourth class).

Nishan al-Istiqlal -
Second class of Grand Officer, neck badge.
- Al-Sanusi
National Service Star: instituted by King Idris I in
1955. Awarded in a single class.
Al-Sanusi Army Liberation Medal: instituted by King Idris
I to recognize the creation of the Army of Liberation on
9th August 1940, and awarded to those who fought against
the Axis powers during the Second World War. Awarded in a
single class.
