1927 - 1948 H.H. Sri Paduka Tuanku Sultan Mahmud ‘Abdu’l Jalil Rahmad Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan ‘Abdu’l Aziz, Sultan of Langkat. b. at Kota Dalam, 19th July 1893, son of H.H. Sri Paduka Tuanku Sultan ‘Abdu’l Aziz ‘Abdu’l Jalil Rahmad Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Haji Musa al-Khalid al-Mu’azzam Shah, Sultan of Langkat, by his first wife, H.H. Tengku Alautiah binti Raja Muda Tengku Sulaiman, Tengku Mahasuri, daughter of Y.A.M. Tengku Sulaiman ibni al-Marhum Sultan Panglima Mangedar Otteman, Raja Muda and Regent of Deli, educ. privately. Appointed as Heir Apparent and invested with with the title of Raja Muda 1899. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1st July 1927. Installed at the Istana Dar ul-Aman, Tanjung Pura, 24th October 1927. Attended the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Queen Wilhelmina, in Amsterdam, 1938. . Held under detention and ill treated by the revolutionaries from March 1946 until freed by Dutch troops 29th July 1947. Chair Bangsawan Langkat Sedjati 1932-1946. Presdt Sharikat ul-Mulk 1932-1946. Rcvd: Knt of the Order of the Netherlands Lion (21.10.1935), GC of the Order of the Dragon of Annam (17.2.1939), and Cdr of the Order of Leopold II of Belgium (29.3.1939). m. (first) at Istana Dar ul-Aman, Tanjung Pura, 1917, H.H. Tengku Raudah binti al-Marhum Tuanku Al-Haji Muhammad Shah, Tengku Permaisuri (b. 8th August 1892; d. 9th March 1971, bur. at the Royal Cemetery, Masjid Azizi, Tanjung Pura), educ. privately, installed as Tengku Permaisuri at the Istana Dar ul-Aman, Tanjung Pura, 2nd September 1927, eldest daughter of H.H. Sri Paduka Tuanku Al-Haji Muhammad Shah ibni al-Marhum Tuanku Al-Haji ‘Abdu’llah Ni’matu’llah Shah, Yang di-Pertuan of Kualuh and Leidong, by his wife, H.H. Tengku Zubaida binti Tengku Al-Haji Ismail, Tengku Ampuan, daughter of Y.A.M. Tengku Al-Haji Ismail ibni al-Marhum Sultan Usman al-Sani Perkasa ‘Alam Shah, Tengku Pangeran Nara, of Bedagai, by whom he had issue, 12 children. m. (second) Inche’ Sri Dharma [Seridam]. m. (third) Inche’ Asmah. He d. from grief, at Manggalaan, Medan, 23rd April 1948 (bur. at the Royal Cemetery, Masjid Azizi, Tanjung Pura), having had issue, four sons and ten daughters:
