GENEALOGY
1860 - 1897 H.H.
Maharana Shri Gambhirsinhji Verisalji Sahib, Raja of
Rajpipla. b. at Nandod, December 1846, only
surviving son of H.H. Maharana Shri Verisalji II
Naharsinhji Sahib, Raja of Rajpipla, educ.
privately. Succeeded on the abdication of his father, 17th
November 1860. Granted a permanent salute of 11-guns,
1860. Reigned under a Council of Superintendence until he
came of age and was invested with full ruling powers,
1863. Granted a sanad of adoption, 11th
March 1862. Due to financial mismanagement, the state was
placed under joint administration by a British officer
and state officials in 1884. The system proved a failure,
and a sole British administrator assumed charge of
affairs in 1887. During his reign, the first efforts at a
modern infrastructure were begun with the bulding of a
road between Nandod and Ankleshwar, schools, a dispensary
and jail, and the reform of the police. Rcvd: the
Prince of Wales's gold medal (1875), and the KIH gold
medal (1877). m. six wives including (first) H.H.

1889). m. (second) H.H. Maharani Shri Wakhat
Kunverba Sahiba (d. at Chattra Niwas Palace,
Nandod, 1915). m. (third) H.H. Maharani Shri Gulab
Kunverba Sahib (d. at Chattra Niwas Palace,
Nandod, 1915). m. (fourth) H.H. Maharani Shri Hari
Kunverba Sahiba (d. from the effects of snakebite,
at Rajpipla, 17th July 1923). m.
(fifth) 25th May 1886, H.H. Maharani Shri
Rattan Kunverba Sahib (d. at Ali Rajpur, 10th
April 1928), third daughter of Rana Shri Rupdeo Sinhji
Sahib, Rana of Ali Rajpur. m. (sixth) H.H.
Maharani Shri
Kunverba Sahiba. He d. at
Nandod, 10th January 1897, having had issue,
