1939 - 1951 Major-General H.H. Farzand-i-Khas-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia, Shrimant Maharaja Sir Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad, Sena Khas Khel Shamsher Bahadur, Maharaja of Baroda, GCIE (1.1.1941). b. at Baroda, 29th June 1908,
educ. Rajkumar Coll, Rajkot, Baroda High Sch, Temple Gore, Eastbourne, and Deccan Coll, Poona (BA, LLD). Entered Baroda sate service and employed as Vahiwatdar at Baroda Palace, Personal Naib Suba to the Maharaja and City Magistrate 1930-1931, Karmasachiva 1931-1934 and 1934-1936, Chief Officer to the Maharaja in Europe 1934, and Huzur Kamdar 1936-1939. Succeeded on the death of his grand father, 6th February 1939 and Installed at the Motibag Palace, Baroda, 26th April 1939. Deposed in favour of his eldest son by the GOI 14th April 1951, and went into exile in England. Hon Maj IA 12/1/1943, prom Hon Lieut-Col 11/7/1944, Hon Col 15/8/1945, and Maj-Gen 15/10/1946. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Shantadevi Sahib Gaekwad (b. in Kolhapur, October 1914; d. at the Maharani Shantadevi Hospital, Baroda, 22nd May 2002, cremated at Kirti Mandir), Presdt Kamatibaug Women’s Club, etc, rcvd: Baroda Diamond Jubilee (1936), and Accession (1939) medals, second daughter of Meherban Shrimant Sardar Mansinhrao Subbarao Ghorpade [Appa Sahib], of Hasur, in Kolhapur state, by his wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Yashodabai Ghorpade. m. (second) at Bombay, 31st December 1943 (div. March 1956), as her second husband and in contravention of both Hindu and Baroda law, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Sitadevi Sahib Gaekwad (b. at Madras, 12th May 1917; d. at Monte Carlo, 1986), former wife of Tahowar-o-Jaladat Dastagah Meka Venkata Apparao Bahadur, Zamindar of Vayyur, by whom she had three children, third daughter of Meherban-i-Dostan Sri Maharaja Ravu Venkata Kumara Mahipathi Suryarao Bahadur Garu, Sardar, Rajahmundry Circar and Maharaja of Pithapuram, CBE, by his first wife, Sri Maharani Chinnamambadevi, daughter of Raja Venkata Ramaya Apparao Bahadur, Zamindar of Kapileswarapuram. He d. at the London Clinic, Devonshire Place, London, 19th July 1968, having had issue, three sons and five daughters by his first wife, and one son by his second wife:
