1726 - 1732 Shrimant Sardar Pilajirao Gaekwad, Sena Khas Khel Shamsher Bahadur, of Sonagad, eldest son of Meherban Shrimant Jhingojirao Kerojirao Gaekwad, by his first wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Bhamabai Sahib Gaekwad, daughter of Shrimant Indurikar Pathar, educ. privately. Adopted by his childless paternal uncle, Shrimant Sardar Damajirao Kerojirao [Panjirao] Gaekwad, Shamsher Bahadur, as his son and heir. Succeeded him in the title of Shamsher Bahadur 1721. He established himself at the fortress of Sonagad in 1726, and then set about carving out a kingdom from the territories over which he collected revenues on behalf of the Peshwa. Granted the title of Sena Khas Khel by the Peshwa, 1731. m. (first) Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Radhabai Sahib Gaekwad, of the Charve family of Tulegoan. m. (second) Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Suntibai Sahib Gaekwad, daughter of the Alirao family of Tulegoan. m. (third) Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Revubai Sahib Gaekwad, daughter of the Saloki family of Poona. m. (fourth) Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Baya Sahib Gaekwad [Bhawani Bai]. m. (i) Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Munnoobai Sahib Gaekwad. m. (ii) Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Ummabai Sahib Gaekwad. He was k. by a Mughal officer named Subedar Abhay Singh, at Dakore, 14th May 1732, having had issue, eight sons:
