of Kakheti, Hereditary Prince of Samtzkhé-Saatabago,
Ruling Prince of Kazakh, Borchalo, Shamshadilo, Kak,
Shaki, and Shirvan, Prince and Lord of Ganja and Erivan. b.
at Batonistsikhe Castle, Telavi, 7th October
1721 o.s., eldest son of H.M. Taimuraz II, King of Kartli
and Kakheti, by his second wife, H.M. Queen Thamar,
daughter of H.M. Vakhtang VI, King of Kartli, educ.
privately. Taken prisoner by Nadir Shah, he entered the
Persian army and served with his master in the invasion
of India, at the Battle of Karnal and the sack of Delhi
1741. Granted the title of "Dowlath-Chariki"
(Shariq ud-Daula?) by Nadir Shah. General Persian army
1744. Proclaimed as King of Kakheti at Tifles, 9th
July 1744. Crowned at the Cathedral of Anchis-Khat,
Tiflis, 1745. Succeeded on the death of his father to the
throne of Kartli, 19th January 1762. Crowned
as King of Kartli at the Cathedral of the Living Pillar,
Mtzkheta, 1762. Recognised as ruler of the re-united
kingdom, as well as sovereign over the khanates of Erivan
and Ganja, by Karim Khan Zand, Regent of Persia. A gifted
military strategist, who fought forty battles and was
victorious in more than thirty. Abolished the Eristavate
of Ksani in 1777. Concluded a treaty of alliance with
Russia, 24th July 1783 o.s. by which Georgia
became a Russian protectorate, he and his wife were
entitled to continue use of the titles of Tsar and
Tsaritsa for life, his sons that of Tsarevitch
together with knighthood of the 1st class of
St Anne, and daughters that of Tsarevna rogether
with the Lesser Cross of the Order of St Catherine.

Russia, 24th September 1783 o.s., became a nun
