GENEALOGY
1885 - 1906 H.H. Sri Paduka Bawah Duli Yang di-Pertuan Sultan Hashim Jalil ul-Alam Akam ud-din ibni al-Marhum Sri Paduka Maulana Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saif ud-din II, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Brunei Dar us-Salam. b. at Istana Kampong Ayer, Sultan Lama, Brunei, 1825, as Pangiran Anak Hashim, youngest son of H.H. Sri Paduka Maulana Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saif ud-din II Jamal ul-Alam ibni al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamal ul-Alam, Sultan of Brunei Dar us-Salam, by his wife, Y.M. Tuan Zaida binti Pengarah di-Gadong Laman Awang Sulaiman educ. privately. Granted the title of Sri Paduka Duli Pangiran Temenggong Sahib ul-Bahar in 1852. Appointed as Heir Apparent and invested with the title of Raja Muda by his cousin, 1881. Proclaimed as ruler on his death, 30th May 1885. Concluded a Protectorate Agreement with the British on 17th September 1888. Concluded a further supplementary treaty on 3rd December 1905, by which Brunei surrendered the conduct of foreign affairs and accepted a British Resident and advisers. Reformed the administration, setting up the first modern departments to administer customs, land, posts, etc. m. (first) ca. 1845, H.H. Paduka Sri Raja Istri Pangiran Anak Siti Fatima, daughter of Y.M. Pangiran Anak Saif ul-Rijal bin Pangiran Temenggong Pangiran Muhammad Yusuf, by his wife, Pian Jamaliah. m. (second) Y.A.M. Pangiran Anak Chandra Kesuma, daughter of Y.A.M. Pangiran Negara Indira. m. (thirdd) ca 1846, a daughter Y.A.M. Pangiran Yusuf. He d. at Istana Kampong Ayer, Sultan Lama, Brunei, 10th May 1906 (bur. there at the Royal Mausoleum, Jalan Khutbah Makam di-Raja), having had issue:
