Appointed as Heir Apparent by his father, in preference to his elder brother. m. (first) Talaumote'moa, daughter of the 1stLuani, by his wife Tukuvaka, a woman of Nga'unoho, in Vava'u. m. (second) Kalo'afutonga, younger daughter of Vaea, 8thTu'iHa'atakalaua. m. (third) Princess Hahanokifanga'uta (m. third, Kafoa, younger son of Mataele Ha'amea - see below), widow of Leka, and younger daughter of Fakana'ana'a, 34thTu'iTonga. He had issue:
1) Ma'afu-'o-tu'itonga, 6thTu'iKonokupolo (s/o Kalo'afutonga) - see below.
2) Tupouto'a (s/o Talaumote'moa). m. (first) a daughter of Fakatakatu'u, 1stTu'iHa'ateiho, by his wife, 'Uliafu, younger daughter of Fotofili, 7thTu'iHa'aTakala'ua. m. (second) a daughter of Tungimana'ia, 2ndTu'iHa'ateiho. He had issue, one son and one daughter:
a) Laumanakilupe Moheofo. m. Fatafehi Tu'ipulatu II, 35thTu'iTonga (d. 1770, bur. Langi Tu'oteau, Lapaha, Mu'a), son of Fakana'ana'a, 34thTu'i Tonga, by his wife, Tongotea Moheofo, youngest daughter of Mataele Ha'ame'a, 4thTu'i Kanokupolu. She had issue, one son and two daughters - see Tonga (Tu'i Tonga).
3) Kafoa. m. (first) a daughter of Afu, matapule of Ha'alaufule, in Vava'u. m. (second) Princess Hahanokifanga'uta, widow of Leka, and of his father, Mataele Ha'amea, 5thTu'iKanokupolu, and younger daughter of Fakana'ana'a, 34thTu'i Tonga. He had issue, one son and one daughter:
a) Alo (s/o the first wife). He had issue, a child who was adopted by his sister Toe'umu.
a) Toe'umu (d/o Princess Hahanokifanga'uta). Toe'umu (d/o'Ulukilupetea). Appointed as Governor of Vava'u by Finau in 1807. Rebelled against him, constructed the great fort at Feletoa, and declared her independence, 1808. Submitted when most of her chiefs deserted, 1810. m. (first) as his second wife, Lakaumoana, 1stTu'iPelehake, eldest son of Fisilaumali, by his wife Fusipala, second daughter of Mataele Ha'ame'a, 5thTu'iKonokupolo, by his second wife, Kaloafutonga, daughter of Vaea, 8thTu'iHa'atakalaua, by whom she had issue, one son - see above. m. 1) Halaevalu Moheifo. m. Fatafehi Tu'ipulatu I, 32ndTu'i Tonga, eldest son of 'Uluakimata II, 31stTu'i Tonga, eldest son of Tapu'osi Kau'ulufonua III, 30thTu'i Tonga, by his first wife, Toa, Ma'itaki., elder daughter of Vaea, 8thTu'iHa'atakalaua. She d.s.p. - see Tonga (Tu'i Tonga).
2) Fusipala (d/o Kalo'afutonga). m. (first) (div.) Tongatangakitau-Lupekifoloha, 14thTu'iHa'aTakala'ua, son of Tu'ihona, by whom she had issue, one son - see Tonga (Tu'iHa'aTakala'ua). m. (second) Fisila'umali, of Pelehake, a man of low rank. She had further issue, one son by her second husband:
a) Lekaumo'ana, 1stTu'iPelehake. m. (first) Mateitalo, former wife of Tatafu, 10thTu'iHa'aTakala'ua, and younger daughter of Mapa, 2ndTu'iHa'ateiho, by his wife, Princess Mafi'uli'uli, youngest daughter of Fakana'ana'a, 34thTu'i Tonga. m. (1) H.H. Prince Filia'ipulotu, 3rdTu'iPelehake (s/o Tupou Veiongo). Governor of Ha'apai. m. at The Chapel Royal, Nuku'alofa, 14th May 1837, H.R.H. Princess Salote Pilolevu Mafileo (b. 1824; d. at Nuku'alofa, 18th September 1891), daughter of H.M. Sia'osi Taufa'ahau Tupou Ma'eakafa [George Tupou I], King of Tonga, by his wife, Finau Kaunanga, eldest daughter of Finau-'Ulukalala-'i-Pouno-Tuapasi'i Sefaria, Tu'iVava'u and 3rdFinau-'Ulukalala. He had issue, one son:
(a) H.H. Prince Sia'osi Fatafehi Toutaitokotaha, 4thTu'iPelehake. b. 2nd July 1842. Minister for Lands 1897-1903, and Finance 1903-1904, Prime Minister 1904. m. (first) 1870, H.R.H. Princess Elisiva Fusipala Tauki'onetuku (b. 18th May 1850; d. at Nuku'alofa, September 1889), Heiress Presumptive, daughter of , m. (second) after 1889, Lepetimalo, daughter of Lauluoa, of Moata'a, Samoa. He d. in the influenza epidemic, at Pikula, Nuku'alofa, 20th November 1912 (bur. Mala'e Kula, Nuku'alofa), having had issue, an only son:
(i) H.M. Sia'osi Taufa'ahau Tupou II, King of Tonga (s/o Princess Elisiva Fusipala) - see below.
(1) Tuputupu'o Pulotu (d/o Latuholeva). m. as his first wife, Finau-'Ulukalala-'i-Pouno-Tuapasi'i Sefaria, Tu'iVava'u and 3rdFinau-'Ulukalala (d. on Vava'u, March 1833), second son of Finau-'Ulukalala-'i-Feletoa Fangupo, Tu'iVava'u and 2ndFinau-'Ulukalala, by his second wife, Fatafehi 'Ongo'alupe, daughter of Talaumokafoa. She had issue, one daughter - see Tonga (Vava'u).

i) Kiuve'etaha Tu'alau, Leka. m. Princess Fatafehi Latufuipeka, Tamaha, daughter of Latunipulu'i-teafua, 2ndTu'iLakepa, by his wife, Princess Fatafehi Nanasipau'u, 8thTu'iTongaFefine, eldest daughter of Fatafehi Tu'ipulatu II, 35thTu'i Tonga. He had issue, a daughter:
(1) Latuholeva. m. as his second wife, 'Uluvalu, 2ndTu'iPelehake, son of Lekaumo'ana, 1stTu'iPelehake, by his second wife, Toe'umu, daughter of Kafoa - see above.
… Vuna, 5thTu'iKanokupolu, second son of Mataele Tu'apiko, 3rdTu'iKanokupolu, by his first wife, Papa, daughter of Akatoa, Tu'iHa'amea. Opposed the selection of his half-brother, Mataele Ha'ame'a. Emigrated to Vava'u with three of his younger brothers and a nephew, where he set up an independent court and was recognised as Tu'iVava'u. Driven into exile in Samoa, by his nephew, ca. 1700. Recognised as successor and Tu'iKanokupolu, after the death of Mataele Ha'ame'a. m. Leha'uku, daughter of Tu'i'onukulava, 12thTu'iHa'aTakala'ua, by his wife, Princess Toto'inukuo'osi, daughter of Tapu'osi Kau'ulufonua III, 31stTu'i Tonga. He had issue, two sons - see Tonga (Vava'u).
