[1842 - 1863] Darbar Shri Nawab Mir Ja’afar ‘Ali Khan
Bahadur, Darbar Sahib of Kamadhia and Nawab of Surat. b. at Baroda,
1817, second son of Namdar Darbar Shri Mir Sarfraz ‘Ali Khan Sahib, Darbar
Sahib of Kamadhia, by his second wife, Raja Begum Sahiba, daughter of Mirza
Sharaf Beg, of Baroda, educ. privately at Baroda and Surat. Succeeded
on the death of his father-in-law as the head and senior representative of the
Surat family, 8th August 1842. He was granted a joint pension of
£5,280 p.a. in 1842, to be shared with his two daughters from his first wife.
Attempted to gain recognition from the British authorities as titular
successor to his father-in-law, but failed even after extensive legal
proceedings in London which lasted several years. Eventually granted an
increased pension of £10,000 p.a. following deliberations in the House
of Commons in 1856. Informally recognised as "Nawab of Surat" in 1857.
Recognised as ruler of Kamadhia and inamdar of Walen after the death
of his father, 1860. m. (first) at the Darya Mahal, Surat,

Sahibzadi Qamar un-nisa Begum Sahiba [Chand Pasha], elder daughter of
Nawab Omar Khan Bahadur, by his wife, Sahibdazi Bashir un-nisa Begum,
daughter of Major-General Al-Haj Afshar ul-Mulk, Afshar ud-Daula,
Nawab Sir Muhammad ‘Ali Beg Bahadur, Afshar Jang, Sardar Bahadur,
KCIE, MVO, OBI, sometime cdt Hyderabad State Forces. He d. at
Hyderabad, having had issue, two sons and three daughters:
(a) Sahibzada Mir Muzaffar Husain Khan [Kemal
