GENEALOGY

Mir Zia ud-din Muhammad Khan [Shah Mukhan], a relative of Khwaja 'Abdu'r Rahim Khan, sometime Khan-i-Buyutut (Master of the Imperial Household) to Emperor Aurangzeb. He had issue, two sons and a daughter:
 
1748 - 1750 & 1758 - 1763 H.H. Qa'im ud-Daula, Nawab Mir Moin ud-din Muhammad Khan Bahadur, Qutb Jang [Mian Achchan], Nawab of Surat, younger son of Mir Zia ud-din Muhammad Khan [Shah Mukhan], educ. privately. Arrived in Surat in 1732. Bakhshi of Surat 1747-1748. Deposed Safdar Khan and assumed control with the help of Nizam Asaf Jah, 1750. Defeated by 'Ali Nawaz Khan, 7th May 1749. Retained possession of the Castle and endured a siege for several months, until forced to yield it to 'Ali Nawaz Khan in December 1749. Granted an addition to his mansab together with the title of Khan Bahadur, 1750. Exiled to Bombay 1751-1758. Returned and ousted 'Ali Nawaz Khan with the help of the Sidis of Janjira, and assumed the government of Surat, 2nd December 1758. Confirmed by Imperial firman and granted the titles of Nawab, Qa'im ud-Daula and Qutb Jang Bahadur 4th September 1759. Entered into treaty relations with the HEIC, who recognised him as an independent ruler and hereditary Nawab of Surat with the style of His Highness, 4th March 1759. m. ca. 1732, H.H. Nawab Karim un-nisa Begum Sahiba, younger daughter of Beglar Khan Bahadur [Mirza Gada Beg], sometime Qiladar of Surat Castle. He d. at Surat Castle, 27th February 1763 (bur. Surat), having had issue, three sons and four daughters:
