- 1542 - 1574 Rai Sri Kalyan Mal, Rai of Bikaner. b. at Junagarh Fort, Bikaner, 6th January 1519, eldest son of Rai Sri Jait Singhji [Jetasi], Rai of Bikaner, educ. privately. Spirited away when Rao Maldevji of Jodhpur attacked Bikaner. Succeeded on the death of his father, 26th February 1542. Installed at Thakuriasar villiage. Attempted to conquer Bikaner with the help of the Godara chief of Shekhsar, but went to Delhi when his plan failed and entered the service of Sher Shah Suri. Proclaimed at Junagarh Fort, Bikaner in February 1544 after its capture by Rawat Kishan Singh of Jetpur. Restored by Sher Shah Suri, who performed the Raj Tilak on him in person, at Ajmer, 1546. He also received the territories of Bayana, Hissar, Rewari and Mewat. Submitted to Emperor Akbar at Ajmer in 1571, accepted into the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 2,000 zat and 2,000 sowar. Granted Jodhpur as an Imperial jagir 1571. m. (first) Sri Sonagari Rani Rainawati Sahiba, daughter of Thakur Shri Akhairaj Rindhirot, of Pali, in Jodhpur, from the Sonagaro Chauhan clan. m. (second) Jaswande, a sister of Maharana Pratap Singhji II [Kika] Sahib, Maharana of Udaipur. He d. 24th January 1574, having had issue, five sons and several daughters, including:

Maharajadhiraja Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Sri Rai Singhji, Raja of Bikaner (s/o Sonagari Rani) – see below.
- 2) Kanwar Sri Amar Singhji [Amra], of Sidhu. Collected a band of brigands and became an outlaw. He was k. in a skirmish with Hamza of Bhimbe, ca. 1587, having had issue, a son:
- a) Kanwar Sri Kesho Das. He was k. with his companions by the forces of Maharaja Rai Singh, after an attempt at avenging his father, 1590.
- 3) Kanwar Sri Surtan Singhji [Surtanji]. He d. after 1578.
- 4) Kanwar Sri Prithvirajji, of Gagron. A valiant soldier in the service of Emperor Akbar, he was one of that distinguished company known as the “nine gems”. He served in the second Gujarat campaign of 1573, and the Kabul expedition, receiving Gagron in jagir as his reward. Poet and author of “Vel Krishna Rukmani ri”. m. a daughter of Maharajadhiraj Parama Bhattarak Shri Maharawal Ji Bairi Harraj Singh Dev Bahadur, Yadukul Chandrawhal, Bijaimand, Maharaja of Jaisalmer. He d. after 1578.
- 5) Kanwar Sri Ram Singhji. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab in reward for his actions at Fatehpur in 1573. Defeated and expelled Chandrasen of Jodhpur at Kulanja in 1574. m. Kanwarani Amar Kunwarji, daughter of Maharana Shri Uday Singhji II, Maharana of Mewar. He was k. in battle with his nephew, Rai Dalpat Singhji, at Rajadwala, 1579.
- 6) Kanwar Sri Ragho Das, of Badhsar.
- 1) A daughter. m. Maharajadhiraj Parama Bhattarak Shri Maharawal Ji Bairi Harraj Singh Dev Bahadur, Yadukul Chandrawhal, Bijaimand, Maharaja of Jaisalmer (d. 1578, eldest son of Parama Bhattarak Maharajadhiraj Parameshwar Shri Maharawal Ji Bairi Lunakarna, Maharawal of Jaisalmer – see India (Jaisalmer).
- 2) Kunveri Pushpavati Kanwar [Rathorji Maharani Shri Pushpavati Devi Sahiba, of Sirohi]m. Maharao Udaya Singh, Rao of Sirohi (d. 1563). She was k. by Maharao Man Singh I, Rao of Sirohi, at Sirohi, 1571 – see India (Sirohi).
- 3) Kunveri Jijiba Kanwar [Rathorji Raniji Shri Jijiba Kunverba Sahib, of Halvad]. m. Shri Shaktimant Jhaladipati Mahamandleshwar Rana Sriraj Raisinhji Mansinhji Sahib, Rana Raj Sahib of Halvad (k. in battle with the Maharao of Cutch, at Halvad, 1584), eldest son of Shri Shaktimant Jhaladipati Mahamandleshwar Rana Sriraj Mansinhji Ranoji Sahib, Rana Raj Sahib of Halvad, by his first wife, Jadeji Raniji Ba Shri Bajiba Kunverba Sahib, daughter of Thakore Shri Hardholji Lakhaji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Dhrol – see India (Dhrangadhra).
- 4) Kunveri Lal Kanwar [Rathoriji Rani Lal Kanwar Sahiba, of Udaipur]. m. as his ninth wife, Maharana Shri Udai Singhji II Sahib, Maharana of Udaipur (b. at Chittorgarh, 4th August 1522; d. at Gogunda, 28th February 1572), fourth son of Maharana Shri Sangram Singhji I Sahib [Sangaji], Maharana of Mewar, by his third wife, Shri Hardoji Rani Karnavati Devi Sahiba, of Bundi – see India (Udaipur).

Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Sri Rai Singhji Bahadur, Raja of Bikaner. b. 20th July 1541, eldest son of Rao Sri Kalyan Mal, Rao of Bikaner, by his wife, Sonagari Rani Rainawati Sahiba, educ. privately. Accompanied his father to Ajmer in 1571 and there entered the Imperial service as security for his father’s good behaviour. Succeeded on the death of his father, 24th January 1574. Installed on the sandalwood throne, at Junagarh Fort, Bikaner, 574. Asumed the titles of Maharaja and Maharajadhiraja but only recognised as Rai by the Mughal Emperor. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab, prom to of 4,000 zat 1590, prom. to 5,000 zat 11th March 1606, demoted 1607, restored to 4,000 zat and 3,000 sowar 14th January 1608. Invaded Jodhpur with a Mughal army and defeated Chandra Sen at Siryari. Administrator of Jodhpur and Guardian of the Gujarat road 1571-1573, Joint Subadar of Lahore 1581-1586, Subadar of Burhanpur 1586-1593 and 1605-1612, and Surat 1593-1597. Granted fifty-two paganas for his services in defeating Muhammad Husain Mirza near Kathoti in August 1573. Received the pargana of Bhatner in exchange for Lakhipur, in the Punjab, in 1585. Constructed the new fort of Bikaner, Junagadh, 1586-1594. Received Junagadh in jagir February 1597, Saurashtra and the whole of southern Kathiawar 20th December 1597, Nagaur on 15th October 1600, and Shamsabad and Nurpur in May 1604. m. (first) Sri Sisodiniji Maharani Jaswant-de Sahiba, daughter of Maharana Shri Uday Singhji II, Maharana of Mewar. m. (second) Sri Bhatianiji Maharani Sri Ganga Bai Kunwarji Sahiba (d. after 25th August 1619). m. (third) at Jaisalmer, 1595, Sri Bhatianiji Maharani Sahiba, daughter of Maharajadhiraj Parama Bhattarak Shri Maharawal Ji Bairi Harraj Singh Dev Bahadur, Yadukul Chandrawhal, Bijaimand, Maharaja of Jaisalmer. He d. at Burhanpur, Deccan, 22nd January 1612, having had issue, five sons:

Kanwar Sri Bhopat Singh (s/o Jaswant-de), educ. at the Imperial Court. Entred the Mughal srvice and srved under Emperor Akbar. He d. from smallpox, at Tehad, 1579.
- 2) Rai Sri Dalpat Singhji Bahadur [Dalip], Rai of Bikaner (s/o Jaswant-de) – see below.
- 3) Rao Sri Surat Singhji Bhuratiya [Surji], Rao of Bikaner – see below.
- 4) Kanwar Sri Hanwant Singhji.
- 5) Kanwar Sri Kishan Singhji Bahadur, of Sankhu. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 2,000 zat and 1,000 sowar 1609, and prom. to 1,500 sowar in 1615, and 3,000 zat in 1616. Served with distinction against the Maharana of Udaipur, and the supression of Prince Khusro. He d. before 12th September 1626 o.s., having had issue, one son:
- a) Jagat Singh. He had issue, two sons:
- i) Bhim Singh.
- ii) Durjan Sal. He was k. by his elder brother in a quarrel, having had issue, a son:
- (1) Surjan Singh. He was k. in an affray, having had issue, a son:
- (a) Jagrup Singh. He had issue, two sons:
- (i) Dungar Singh.
- (ii) Nawal Singh.
- 1) A daughter. m. Bandhvesh Sri Maharaja Virbhadra Rao Bahadur, Maharaja of Bandhogarh (b. ca. at Bandhogarh, 1540; d. from wounds received in a fall from his palki, while returning from Delhi to Bandhoragh for his installation, before 25th July 1593), son of Bandhvesh Sri Maharaja Ramchandra Singh Ju Deo Bahadur, Maharaja of Bandhogarh, by his wife, Bandhveshwari Sri Maharani Sri Yasoda Devi Sahiba, daughter of Raja Madhav Singh, Raja of Gaura. She had issue - see India (Rewa).
- 2) Kunveri Kamavati Kanwar [Maharani Kamavati Dadimade Sahiba, of Jaisalmer] (d/o Ganga Bai). m. Maharajadhiraj Raj Rajeshwar Parama Bhattarak Shri Maharawal Ji Bairi Bhim Singh Dev Bahadur, Yadukul Chandrawhal, Bijaimand, Maharaja of Jaisalmer (b. 1563: d. 1614), eldest son of Maharajadhiraj Parama Bhattarak Shri Maharawal Ji Bairi Harraj Singh Dev Bahadur, Yadukul Chandrawhal, Bijaimand, Maharaja of Jaisalmer. She d. after 1617 – see India (Jaisalmer).
- 3) Another daughter. m. 6th July 1586, H.M. Al- H.M. Al-Sultan al-’Azam wal Khaqan al-Mukarram, Khushru-i-Giti Panah, Abu’l-Fath Nur ud-din Muhammad Jahangir Padshah, Emperor of India (b. in the hut of Shaikh Salim at Fatehpur Sikri, 10th September 1569; d. at Chingarhsiri, 8th November 1627, bur. Mausoleum of Emperor Jahangir, Shahdera Bagh, Lahore), third son of H.M. Al-Sultan al-’Azam wal Khaqan al-Mukarram, Imam-i-‘Adil, Sultan ul-Islam Kaffatt ul-Anam, Amir ul-Mu’minin, Khalifat ul-Muta’ali Abu’l-Fath Jalal ud-din Muhammad Akbar I Sahib-i-Zaman, Padshah Ghazi Zillu’llah, Emperor of India, by his wife, Wali Nimat, Hamida Banu Mariam uz-Zamani Begum Sahiba, née Rajkumari Hira Kunwari Sahiba, eldest daughter of Raja Bihari Mal, Raja of Amber – see India Pensioners (Delhi).
