Sahib-i-Qiran, Sultan bar Salatin, ‘Abu’l Muzaffar ‘Abu’l Fath Sultan Shah Tahmasp bin Shah Ismail al-Safavi al-Husayni al-Musavi Bahadur Khan, Shahanshah of Persia. b. at Shahabad, 3rd March 1513, educ. privately. Governor of Khorasan 1515-1521. Succeeded on the death of his father, 23rd May 1525. Entered into commercial relations with the English Muscovy Co. 1561-1563. m. (first) his maternal first cousin, Kadamali Sultan Begum, née Sultanum Begum (b. ca. 1516; d. at Qazvin, 1593), daughter of Musa Sultan bin ‘Isa Beg Musullu (Bayanduri), of the Aq Quyunlu, Governor of Azerbaijan. m. (second) before 1548, Sultan Agha Khanum, a Circassian, sister of Shamkhal Kara-Musal Sultan, sometime Governor of Sakki. m. (third) before 1555, Sultanzada Khanum, daughter of ‘Ali Khan Gorji, a Georgian. m. (fourth) at Tiflis, 1548, Zahra Baji (d. after 1577), daughter of Prince Otar Shalikashvili, of Meskhia, in Georgia. m. (fifth) Khan-Parwar Khanum, a sister of Zali Beg Gorji, a Georgian. m. (sixth) Huri-Khan Khanum, another Georgian. m. (seventh) a daughter of the Governor of Daghastan. m. (eighth) 1546, Aisha Begum, daughter of Sufian Khan, Khan of Khiva. m. (ninth) after 1549, Zainab Sultan Khanum (d. at Qazvin, October 1570), widow of his younger brother Shahzada ‘Abdl Fath Muiz ud-din Bahram Mirza, and sister of Imad ud-din Shirvani. m. 1576 - 1577 H.M. ‘Abu’l Muzaffar Sultan Ismail II bin Shah Tahmasp al-Safavi al-Husayni al-Musavi Bahadur Khan, Shahanshah of Persia. b. at Qum, May 1537, as Shahzada Sultan Ismail Mirza, third son of H.M. Sahib-i-Qiran, Sultan bar Salatin, ‘Abu’l Muzaffar ‘Abu’l Fath Sultan Shah Tahmasp bin Shah Ismail al-Safavi al-Husayni al-Musavi Bahadur Khan, Shahanshah of Persia, by his first wife, Kadamali Sultan Begum, née Sultanum, daughter of Musa Sultan bin ‘Isa Musullu, of the Aq Quyunlu, educ. privately. Governor of Shirvan 1547-1548, of Hamadan 1555-1556, and of Khorasan 1556. Arrested and imprisoned at Qahqahan 1556. Proclaimed at Qazvin after the death of his father, 23rd May 1576. Crowned there, 1st September 1576. m. (first) at Qazvin, or Tabriz, 1555, Safia Sultan Begum (b. after 1537), née Pari Peykar Khanum, daughter of Sayyid Nur ud-din Nimatu’llah Baqi Yazdi, by his wife, Princess (Shahzadi ‘Alamiyan) Janish Khanum, eldest daughter of H.M. ‘Abu’l Muzaffar Ismail Shah I, Shahanshah of Persia. m. (second) at Qazvin, 1576, a daughter of Amir Pira Muhammad Khan Ustajalu. m. (third) at Qazvin, 1576, a daughter of Shamkhal Sultan, sometime Governor of Sakki. m. (fourth) at Qazvin, 1576, a daughter of Amir Husain Khan Sultan Kinislu. He d. at Qazvin, from an overdose of opium, 4th December 1577 (bur. 1578 - 1588 H.M. ‘Abu’l Muzaffar Sultan Muhammad Khuda Banda Shah bin Shah Tahmasp al-Safavi al-Husayni al-Musavi Bahadur Khan, Shahanshah of Persia. b. 1531, as Shahzada ‘Abu’l Ghalib Sultan Muhammad Muran Mirza, second son of H.M. Sahib-i-Qiran, Sultan bar Salatin, ‘Abu’l Muzaffar ‘Abu’l Fath Sultan Shah Tahmasp bin Shah Ismail al-Safavi al-Husayni al-Musavi Bahadur Khan, Shahanshah of Persia, by his first wife, Kadamali Sultan Begum, née Sultanum, daughter of Musa Sultan bun ‘Isa Musullu, of the Aq Quyunlu, educ. privately. Governor of Khorasan 1535-1556, 1556-1565 and 1566-1571, and of Fars 1571-1578. Succeeded on the death of his younger brother, 4th December 1577 (having been passed over on account of his poor sight in 1576). Crowned 23th February 1578. Active power being held by his wife, the Mahd-i-Aliya and his sister Pari Khan Khanum. Abdicated in favour of his third son, 9th September 1588. Poet and man of letters under the pen-name ‘Fahmi’. m. (first) at Herat, 1549, a daughter of Mir ‘Abdu’l Azim Saifi Husaini, of Gilan, by his wife, a daughter of Qazi Jahan Qazvini, sometime Vizier. m. (second) at Qazvin, 1565, Nawab-i-Sipihr Istibah Bilqis uz-Zamani Khair un-nisa Begum, H.M. The Mahd-i-Aliya (k. (strangled in the Harem) at Qazvin, 26th July 1579; bur. Mashhad), daughter of Mir ‘Abdu’llah Khan II Mar‘asi, Governor of Mazandaran, by his wife, Fakhr un-nisa Begum. He d. at Alamut, between July 1595 and July 1596 (bur. Sultanieh), having had issue, six sons and one daughter:
