1913 - 1937 Major H.H. Raja Shrimant Sir Khem Sawant V Bhonsle Bahadur [Bapu Sahib], Sir Desai of Sawantwadi, KCSI (4.6.1934). b. at Sawantwadi, 20^th August 1897, only son of H.H. Raja Shrimant Shriram Sawant Bhonsle Bahadur, Sir Desai of Sawantwadi, by his first wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Jankibai Raje Bhonsle, educ. Malvern Coll., Worcestershire, Trinity Coll., Cambridge, and Officers' Cadet Training Sch., Cambridge. Succeeded on the death of his father, 24^th April 1913. Cmsnd. as temp. Hon. 2^nd Lieut. 24/6/1917, attached 1^st Btn, 116^th Mahratta Light Infantry IA, served in the Great War in Mesopotamia and Palestine 1917-1919, prom. Hon Capt. 23/7/1919, and Hon Maj 23/8/1933. Granted a permanent salute of 11-guns in recognition of war services, 1/1/1921. Reigned under the Regency of his stepmother until he came of age, and was invested with full ruling powers, at Sawantwadi, 29^th October 1924. Attended the funeral of the King Emperor George V in London in 1936. Mbr. Willingdon (Bombay), and Belgaum Clubs. Rcvd: British War, Allied Victory (1918), Silver Jubilee (1935) and Coron. (1937) medals. m. at Laxmi Vilas, Baroda, 30^th April 1922, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Parvatidevi Raje Bhonsle [H.H. Rajmatoshri Parvatidevi Bhonsle] (b. at Baroda, 1^st May 1907; d. at Belgaum, 1961), Rani Regent from 4^th July 1937 to 2^nd May 1947, rcvd: Silver Jubilee (1935), Coron. (1937) and Indian Independence (1948) medals, née Shrimant Yuvarajkumari Lakshmi Devi Raje Gaekwad, younger daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Shrimant Yuvaraj Fatehsinhrao Gaekwad, of Baroda, by his wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Yuvarajni Padmavati Devi Raje Gaekwad, daughter of Shrimant Ramchandrarao Jagdeorao Naik Nimbalkar, of Phaltan. He d. at Wanawadi Military Hospital, Poona, 4^th July 1937, having had issue, one son and three daughters:

1) Rajkumari Shrimati Tillotama Raje Bhonsle [Rani Sri Hemlata Raje Sahiba, of Jind]. b. at Amboli, 7^th March 1923, educ. privately. m. Maharajkumar Jagatbir Singh (b. 23^rd March 1925), third son of Brigadier H.H. Farzand-i-Dilband, Rasikh-ul-Itiqad-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia, Raja-i-Rajgan, Maharaja Sir Ranbir Singh Rajendra Bahadur, Maharaja of Jind, GCSI - see India (Jind).
2) Rajkumari Shrimati Satyavati Raje Bhonsle [Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Satyavati Raje Ghatge]. b. 6^th August 1930, educ. privately. m. Meherban Shrimant Chiranjiva Rajashri Ajitsinh Rao Yeshwantrao Ghatge, Sarjerao, Chief of Kagal (Junior) (b. 28^th March 1928), elder son of Meherban Shrimant Chiranjiva Rajashri Yeshwantrao Dattajirao Ghatge [Appa Sahib], Sarjerao, Chief of Kagal (Junior), by his wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Babaibai Raje Ghatge, fourth daughter of H.H. Raja Shrimant Shriram Sawant Bhonsle, Bahadur, Sar Desai of Sawantwadi, by his first wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Jankibai Raje Bhonsle, daughter of Shrimant Ganpatrao Sadojirao Jadhorao, Desai of Raibog. She had issue, one son and two daughters - see India (Kolhapur).
3) Rajkumari Shrimati Suniti Raje Bhonsle [Sri Rani Suniti Rajya Lakshmi Rana]. b. 16^th September 1932, educ. privately. m. Kanak Shumshere Jung Bahadur Rana (b. 1930), eldest son of Major-General Maha-Gaurabmaya-Tejaswi-Tribhuvan-Prajatantra-Shripada The Rt Hon. Subarna Shumshere Jang Bahadur Rana, GCVO, sometime Prime Minister and Minister for Planning of Nepal, by his wife, Sri Rani Shweta Prabha Rajya Lakshmi. She had issue, three sons - see Nepal (Lambjang & Kaski).

1937 - [1995] Lieutenant-Colonel H.H. Raja Shrimant Shivaram Sawant Bhonsle Bahadur [Baba Sahib], Sir Desai of Sawantwadi. b. at Poona, 13^th August 1927, only son of Major H.H. Raja Shrimant Sir Khem Sawant V Bhonsle Bahadur [Bapu Sahib], Sir Desai of Sawantwadi, KCSI, by his wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Parvatibai Raje Bhonsle, Rani Regent of Sawantwadi, educ. the Doon Sch., Dehra Dun, Wadia Coll., Poona, and OTC, Mhow. Succeeded on the death of his father, 4^th July 1937. Ascended the gadi, at Sawantwadi, 5^th July 1937. Reigned under the Regency of his mother until he came of age. Invested with full ruling powers, 12^th May 1947. Cmsnd. 2^nd-Lieut. Baroda State Forces, served in WW2 1944-1946, prom. Capt. IA 3/7/1944, coy. cdr. 10^th (Training) Btn., Mahratta Light Infantry IA 1944-1945, QM 1945-1946, prom. Hon. Lieut-Col. IA. Signed the instrument of accession to the Dominion of India, 15^th August 1947. Merged his state into the Bombay Presidency, 8^th March 1948 (when he ceased to enjoy sovereign powers). MLA for Sawantwadi in the Bombay state assembly 1967-1971 and in the Maharashtra state assembly 1980-1990. The GOI amended the Indian Constitution to remove his position as a "ruler" and his right to receive privy-purse payments, 28^th December 1971. A keen sportsman, musician and artist. Rcvd: 39/45 star, British War, Defense, India Service (1945), and Indian Independence (1948) medals. m. at Bombay, 8^th December 1951, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Satvashiladevi Raje Bhonsle [H.H. Rajmatoshri Satvashiladevi Bhonsle] (b. at Pratap Vilas Palace, Baroda, 1935), educ. privately, Presdt. Sawantwadi Lacquerwares, Sawantwadi Woodworks and Shri Patekar Industries, second daughter of Major-General H.H. Shrimant Maharaja Sir Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad, Khas Khel Shamsher Bahadur, Maharaja of Baroda, GCIE, by his first wife H.H. Maharani Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Shanta Devi Sahiba, daughter of Meherban Shrimant Sardar Mansinhrao Ghorpade [Appa Sahib], of Hasur, in Kolhapur state. He d. at Belgaum, 13^th July 1995, having had issue, one son and one daughter:

1) H.H. Raja Shrimant Khem Sawant VI Bhonsle Bahadur, Sir Desai of Sawantwadi - see below.
1) Rajkumari Shrimati Shivapriya Raje Bhonsle [Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Shivapriya Raje Bhogle]. b. 17^th October 1952. m. at Bombay, 197x, Shrimant Kalakumar Bhogle.

[1995] H.H. Raja Shrimant Khem Sawant VI Bhonsle Bahadur, Sir Desai of Sawantwadi. b. at Belgaum, 1959, only son of Lieutenant-Colonel H.H. Raja Shrimant Shivaram Sawant Bhonsle Bahadur [Baba Sahib], Sir Desai of Sawantwadi, by his wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Satvashiladevi Raje Bhonsle, educ. Sandur Residential Sch., Shivapur, and Karnataka Regional Engineering Coll. (KREC), Surathkal, Dakshina Kannada (B.Eng.). Civil Engineer. Succeeded on the death of his father as Head of the Royal House of Sawantwadi, 13^th July 1995. m. H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Shubhada Raje Bhonsle, daughter of Shrimant Shivajirao Sawant. He has issue, one son and one daughter:

1) Yuvraj Shrimant Lakham Sawant Bhonsle.
1) Rajkumari Shrimati Urvashii Raje Sahib Bhonsle.
