Maharajadhiraj Mirza Maharao Shri Bharmulji II Sahib, Rao
of Cutch, by his wife, H.H. Sodhi Maharani Bai Shri
Tajuba Sahib, educ. privately. Appointed as Heir
Apparent to his father, 1817. Succeeded on the deposition
of his father, 25th March 1819. Installed on
the gadi, 19th April 1819. Reigned
under a Council of Regency, headed by Captain MacMurdo
and composed of Jadeja chiefs. During the early years of
his reign Cutch suffered a severe earthquake on 16th
June 1819, resulting in much destruction of property and
great loss of life. A severe famine followed in 1823, and
in 1825 and 1832 the state was wated by a marauding band
of 3,000 Sindi freebooters. Came of age and was invested
with full ruling powers, 8th July 1834.
Appointed a Council of Regency due to increasing
ill-health in early 1859, and transferred his ruling
powers to his son and heir, July 1859. m. eight
wives including (first) at Dhrangadhra, H.H. Jhaliji Rani
Shri Bajiraj Kunwarba Sahib, eldest daughter of H.H. Shri
Shaktimant Jhaladap Mahamandleshwar Maharana Shri Raj
