Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck [Jigs-med Seng-ge dBang-phyug], Mang-pos Bhur-ba’i rgyalpo, King of Bhutan. b. at the Dechenchholing Palace, Gonpa, 11^th November 1955, only son of H.M. Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, King of Bhutan, by his wife, H.M. Queen Kesang-la Choden Wangchuk, educ. St Joseph’s Sch., North Point, Darjeeling, in England, and Wangchuk Acad, Paro. Chair National Planning Cmsn 1971-1991. Appointed as Heir Apparent and Crown Prince by his father, 5^th May 1972. Installed as the 15^th Trongsa Penlop at the Zimchung Nang of the Trongsa Choekor Rabtentse Dzong, 15^th May 1972. Succeeded on the death of his father, 15^th July 1972. Crowned by Je Ngawang Thinley Lhundub at the Tashiochu Dzong, Changlimithang, 2^nd June 1974. Abdicated in favour of his eldest son and heir 9^th December 2006 (with effect on 14^th December 2006).
