1917 - 1921 H.E. Shaikh Salim I bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI (1919). b. at Kuwait, 1864, son of son of H.E. Shaikh Mubarak I bin Sabah Al-Sabah, the Great, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, KCSI, KCIE, by his wife, Shaikha Shekha bint Duaij Al-Sabah, daughter of Shaikh Duaij bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah, educ. privately. Governor of Kuwait City 1915-1917. Succeeded on the death of his elder brother, 5th February 1917 (recognised by HMG 28th February 1917). Installed at Kuwait City, 16th March 1917. m. (first) Shaikha Shaikha Mariam bint Jarrah Al-Sabah, younger daughter of Shaikh Jarrah bin Sabah Al-Sabah, sometime Minister for External Affairs, by his first wife, Shaikha Lulwa bint ‘Abdu’llah Al-Thaqib, daughter of his maternal uncle, Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Thaqib, of Zubair. m. (second) Shaikha Latifa bint Hamud Al-Sabah, daughter of Shaikh Hamud bin Sabah Al-Sabah, by his wife, Shaikha Mouza bint Duaij Al-Sabah, daughter of Shaikh Duaij bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah. m. (third) Tifla (d.s.p.), née Al-Rushdan. m. (fourth) Munira (d. 31st October 1984), daughter of Muhammad Al-Debbus. m. (fifth) Beza (d.s.p.), daughter of Sagar Al-Ghanim. m. (sixth) Sharifa, née Al-‘Amr. m. (seventh) Sha‘awa, née Al-Otaibi. m. (eighth) Hadiya, an Ethiopian lady. He d. at Kuwait City, 22nd February 1921, having had issue, five sons and six daughters:
