1856 - 1898 H.H. Shri Raja Sir Shamsher Prakash Bahadur, Raja of Sirmur, GCSI (15.2.1887, KCSI 31.12.1875). b. at Nahan, 1845, elder son of Shri Raja Raghubir Prakash Bahadur, Raja of Sirmur, by his second wife, Shri Hathioli Rani Deviji Sahiba, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 20th June 1856. Ascended the gadi at the Shish Mahal, Nahan, 18th January 1857. Installed by the Lieutenant-Governor, at Nahan, 4th July 1857. Reigned under a Council of Regency until he came of age. Invested with full ruling powers, 18xx. Mbr of the Imperial Legislative Council in Calcutta. Rendered loyal services during the Indian Mutiny in 1857, in recognition of which he received a khilat and a permanent salute of 7-guns 1857. Raised to a permanent salute of 11-guns and granted the hereditary style of His Highness 1867, and later prom to a personal salute of 13-guns 1886. He sent contingents of state troops to serve in the Second Afghan War of 1880, and the Tirah expedition of 1897. He took a keen personal interest in the administration and was a strict disciplinarian, who severely checked bribery and corruption amongst his officials, cleanliness and order amongst his subjects. He also constructed water works for clean, pure water and promoted medical facilities and good health practices. He also reformed the entire legal system, instituting a modern civil and criminal code, a modern judiciary and court procedures. Mbr North Punjab Fishing Club. Rcvd: the Prince of Wales's (1876) and KIH (1877) gold medals. m. (first) at Koenthal, 18xx, H.H. Shri Koenthali Rani Talab Deviji Sahiba (d. at Nahan Palace, 18xx), daughter of Raja Shri Mahendra Sen Bahadur, Raja of Keonthal. m. (second) at Koenthal, H.H. Shri Koenthali Rani …Deviji Sahiba, younger daughter of Raja Shri Mahendra Sen Bahadur, Raja of Keonthal. m. (third) H.H. Shri Kunhari Rani Deviji Sahiba, younger daughter of Thakur Kishen Singh, Thakur of Kunihar, near Simla. He d. from a paralytic stroke, at Shamsher Villas, Nahan, 2nd October 1898, having had issue, two sons:
