t) H.H. Prince (Hteik Tin) Maung Kin Kin Gyi, Prince of Limbin (Limbin Mintha). b. 1858 (s/o Shin Hpaw-according or Khin Phoet), educ. at Rangoon, British Burma. He escaped from the palace during the 1879 massacres by wearing female attire, and entered British service as a subordinate executive officer in Lower Burma. Myook (township officer) of Henzada until his dismissal for incompetence and attempting to raise a rebellion in Upper Burma. He left Moulmien in October 1885 and made his way to Kengtung, where he joined in rebellion with the Shan Sawbwas in December 1885. Came in following the collapse of the Limbin League and accepted British suzerainty, at Mongnai, 12th May 1887. Granted a stipend of £16 per month, choosing to live in exile at Calcutta 1887-1900 and Allahabad 1900-1911, until allwed to return to Rangoon in 1911. Mbr Allahabad Club, Maha Bodhi Soc, etc. m. Author of “The Burmese way of life” (1964), “The Hill Tribes of Burma” (1967), etc. m. (first) 1911, Shwepyi Khin Khin Gyi, a granddaughter of an ex-minister of King Thibaw. m. (second) Daw Khin Khin Thein, only daughter of Dr Thein Maung, sometime Minister for Commerce and Ambassador to Japan during the Japanese occupation. He d. after 1967, having had issue, three sons and three daughters:
(1) Peter Limbin. b. 10th October 1941 (s/o Khin Khin Thein), educ. Methodist English High Sch, Rangoon. Employed as a clerk, field auditor and accountant in the Accounting Office of the Defense Ministry from 1962.
