- 'Abdu'l Wahid
Kandahari, from a small Safi tribe from the Mohmand area
of Afghanistan, who migrated across the border and
settled in the Upper Swat valley of the Khush. He d.
before 1835, having had issue, a son:
- 1) Qutb
ul-Aqtab, Ghaus-i-Zaman, Shaikh Hafiz
'Abdu'l Ghafur [Saidu Baba]. b. at Jabrai,
Shamizai, Upper Swat, 1784, educ. at
Madrassas in Pehsawar and elsewhere. A great
religious leader who settled at Saidu Sharif, at
the foot of Mount Gira, in 1845. Styled Saidu
Baba and Akhund of Swat by his
followers. Appointed as Sheikh-ul-Islam by the
Loya Jirga at Saidu Sharif in 1849. m. a
lady from a Sayyidi family of Spal Bandai. He d.
at Saidu Sharif, 22nd January 1877 (bur.
there at the Saidu Baba Mausoleum), having had
issue, two sons:
- a)
Miangul Abdul Hanan [Mashar Sahib]. b.
at Saidu Sharif, 1852, educ.
privately. Attempted to become Amir after
the death of his father, but was unable
to gather a sufficient following. m.
(first) a lady from the Sayyid family of
Bara Bande in Nikpikhel. m.
(second) a lady from the Khuswakht
dynasty of Chitral. m. (third) a
woman from the village of Jambil. He d.
1887, having had issue, two sons and two
daughters:
- i)
Miangul Abdul Razak [Sayyid
Badshah]. b. at Saidu
Sharif, 1880 (s/o the
Sayyida), educ. privately.
Appointed joint successor to his
paternal uncle, 1892. Contested
for power with his cousins. He
was k. by his cousins, 28th
December 1903, leaving a
posthumous son:

Miangul Abdul Wahid [Amir
Badshah]. b. at Saidu
Sharif, 1884 (s/o the
Khuswakht lady). m. two
wives, including (a) a lady from
a Mian family in Jandul (m.
second, 1907, H.H. Miangul
Gulshazada Sir Abdul Wadud, Wali
of Swat, KBE - see below). m.

(m. second,
1907, Miangul Abdul Manan - see
below). He was k. by his
cousin, while on a hunting trip,
1907.
- i) A
daughter (d/o the
Sayyida). m. (div.
1903) H.H. Miangul Gulshahzada
Sir Abdul Wadud, Wali of Swat,
KBE (b. 1882; d. 1st
October 1971), eldest son of her
uncle, Miangul Abdul Khaliq. She d.
shortly after 1903, having had
issue, an only daughter - see
below.
- ii)
Another daughter (d/o the
Sayyida). She d. unm.
1975.
- b)
Miangul Abdul Khaliq Khan [Kashar Sahib].
b. at Saidu Sharif, 1858, educ.
privately. A religious leader like his
father, he eventually established a
semi-religious form of government based
on sheikhs and religious men, but without
an army or administration. m. as
his only wife,
(d. 1930),
daughter of Shah Muhammad Aman ul-Mulk
II, Mehtar of Chitral and Yasin, Master
of Ghizr, Ishkoman and Suzerain of
Kafiristan. He d. 1892, having had
issue, two sons:
- i)
Miangul Gulshahzada Haji Abdul
Wadud [Shahzada Badshah Jan], who
became H.H. Miangul Gulshahzada
Haji Abdul Wadud [Badshah Sahib],
Wali of Swat - see below.
ii) Miangul Abdul Manan [Shahzada
Shirin Jan]. b. at Saidu
Sharif, 1888, educ.
privately. Sipah Salar
(C-in-C) 1917-1918. m.
(first) a daughter of his uncle,
Miangul Abdul Hanan. m.
(second) 1907, a widow of his
cousin, Miangul Abdul Wahid (she d.s.p.
shortly after her marriage). m.
(third) a daughter of Jamroz Khan
Babuzai. He k. as a
prisoner by the Dir forces, after
surrendering the fort at Khazana,
in Shamozai, September 1918,
having had issue, one son and two
daughters:

(first) a relative. m.
(second) a lady from
Thama, who had several
children but none
survived. m.

wife. He d. by
suicide, 1947, having had
issue, three sons and
five daughters,
including:
