Maulana Paduka Sri Tuanku Sultan Sir Idris Murshid al-Azzam Shah Rahmatu’llah ibni al-Marhum Raja Bendahara Alang Iskandar, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the State of Perak, GCMG (20.3.1901, KCMG 1.1.1892, CMG 2.10.1884), GCVO (3.6.1913). b. at Kuala Keboi, Kampar, 19th June 1849, third son of Raja Alang Iskandar Shah ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah Johan Berdaulat Khalifatu’llah [al-Marhum Kuala Teja], Raja Bendahara, by his second wife, Cik Ken Uda Sari binti ‘Abdu’l Rahman [Alang Milu], daughter of Cik ‘Abdu’l Rahman, Panglima Dalam, educ. privately. District Magist. & Penghulu at Kuala Kampar 1875-1884, Chief Justice of Perak 1884-1887. Appointed as Heir Apparent with the title of Tuanku Raja Muda, Wakil us-Sultan, Wazir ul-Azam 1886. Succeeded on the death of his father-in-law, 26th July 1887. Proclaimed 29th July 1887. Crowned at Kuala Kangsar, 5th April 1889. Entered into a Treaty of Federation to form the Federated Malay States July 1895. Hon Col 1st (Perak) Btn. MSVI. Hon Mbr Malaya Football Assoc (Singapore). Rcvd: Coron medals (1903 & 1911). m. (first) 1868, H.H. Raja Nuteh ‘Aisha binti al-Marhum Sultan Yusuf Sharif ud-din Muzaffar Shah Ghafiru’llah, Raja Perempuan (b. before 4th October 1853; d. at Istana Kasar Makmur, Kuala Kangsar, 6th October 1920, bur. there at the Al-Ghufran Royal Cemetery, Bukit Chandan), daughter of H.H. Paduka Sri Tuanku Sultan Yusuf Sharif ud-din Muzaffar Shah Ghafiru’llah ibni al-Marhum Sultan ‘Abdu’llah Muhammad Shah Duran Sabatang, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Perak, by his first wife, Cik Puan Fatima binti Raja Indira Bongsu, Tunku Permaisuri. m. (second) 1872, H.H. Cik Ngah Manah binti Manda Duwayat, To’ Puan Besar (d. at an advanced age, Istana Kunig, Kuala Kangsar, 4th February 1932, bur. there at the Al-Ghufran Royal Cemetery, Bukit Chandan). m. (third) H.H. Cik Haji Ngah Uteh Mariah binti Haji Sulaiman, Tengku Permaisuri (d. at Istana Cinta Berahi, Kuala Kangsar, 26th February 1924, bur. there at the Al-Ghufran Royal Cemetery, Bukit Chandan), daughter of Y.Bhg. Haji Sulaiman, Orang Kaya-Kaya Shahbandar Paduka Indira. m. (fourth) Y.M. Cik Long Polam. m. (fifth) Y.M. Cik Alang Sawiya binti Cik Kulup ‘Abdu’l Samid (d. at Kuala Kangsar, 16th November 1957 bur. there at the Al-Ghufran Royal Cemetery, Bukit Chandan), daughter of Cik Kulup ‘Abdu’l Samid bin Dato’ Long Ibrahim. m. (sixth) Y.M. Sharifa Alawiya (d.s.p.). m. (seventh) Y.M. Sharifa Maheran (d.s.p.). He d. at the Istana Negara, Kuala Kangsar, 14th January 1916 (bur. there at the Makam Rahmatullah, Al-Ghufran Royal Cemetery, Bukit Chandan), having had issue, eight sons and eleven daughters:
