1896 - 1915 H.E. Shaikh Mubarak I bin Sabah Al-Sabah, the Great, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, KCSI (2.6.1914), KCIE (12.12.1911). b. before 10th January 1845, son of Shaikh Sabah II bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait, by his wife, Shaikha Lulwa bint Muhammad Al-Thaqib, daughter of Amir Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Thaqib, Amir of Zubair, educ. privately. Killed his brother (erroneously sited in British documents as his half brother) and seized the Shaikdom, 18th May 1896. Appointed to the rank of Kaimmakam and granted the title of Pasha by the Sultan of Turkey, 1897. Signed a protectorate treaty with Great Britain, 23rd November 1899 and was recognized by the British as an independant Shaikhdom under British protection November 1914. Granted a personal salute of 12-guns 22nd September 1909 and the style of His Excellency 11th August 1914.   • 4) H.E. Shaikh Nasir Pasha Al-Sabah. b. at Kuwait, 1883 (s/o Wasmiya). m. Munira. A great benefactor who was instrumental in establishing educational and medical institutions. Established a fine library. m. Shaikha Hussa bint Sulaiman Al-Hamud Al-Badr, daughter of Shaikh Sulaiman Al-Hamud Al-Badr. He d. at Kuwait, 7th December 1917, having had surviving issue, two sons and three daughters:

Shaikh Salim bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI, by his wife, Sharifa Al-‘Amr. m. (second) Sara, a daughter of the Bani Khalid tribe. m. (third) (div.)     • b) Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah Bey Al-Sabah. b. 1905. m. a daughter of H.E. Shaikh Salim I bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI, by his wife, Shaikha Mariam bint Jarah, daughter of Shaikh Jarah bin Sabah II. He was k. by his brother, Sabah, at Kuwait City, 14th December 1928.
    • a) Shaikha Lulwa bint Nasir Al-Sabah. m. (first) Shaikh ‘Ali bin Salim Al-Sabah (b. 1898; d. at Riqai 1928), son of H.E. Shaikh Salim I bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI, by his wife, Shaikha Latifa bint Hamud Al-Sabah, daughter of Shaikh Hamud bin Sabah II. m. (second), ca. 1928, Shaikh Fahad bin Salim Al-Sabah (b. 1906; d. at Dammam, Saudi Arabia, 16th June 1959), son of H.E. Shaikh Salim I bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI, by his wife, Hadiya, an Ethiopian lady. She had issue, one son and one daughter by her first husband – see below.
    • b) H.E. Shaikha Bazza bint Nasir Al-Sabah. m. as his wife (sep.), H.H. Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah III bin Salim Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait, GCMG, CIE, KStJ (b. 1895; d. at the Dasman Palace, Kuwait City, 24th November 1965), son of H.E. Shaikh Salim bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI. She d.s.p. – see below.
    • c) Shaikha Nurah Bibi bint Nasir Al-Sabah. m. (first) Shaikh ‘Ali bin Salman Al-Sabah (d. 1944), son of Shaikh Salman bin Hamud Al-Sabah, by his wife, Shaikha Shamma bint Sabah Al-Sabah, daughter of Shaikh Sabah Bey Al-Sabah. m. (second) (div.) Shaikh Salman bin Fazil Al-Sabah, son of Shaikh Fazil bin Salman Al-Sabah. m. (third) outside the Al-Sabah family - see above.
