1921 - 1950 H.H. Shaikh H.H. Shaikh Ahmad I bin Jabir al-‘Ali al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, KCSI (1.1.1944, CSI 3.6.1929), KCIE (3.6.1930, CIE 2.1.1922). b. 1885, son of H.E. Shaikh Jabir II bin Mubarak al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI, by his wife, Shaikha Shekha bint ‘Abdu’llah al-Sabah, elder daughter of H.E. Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah II Pasha al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his uncle, 21st February 1921. Installed at Kuwait City, 29th March 1921. Granted the style of His Highness 1st April 1937. Rcvd: King George V Silver Jubilee (1935) and King George VI Coron (1937) medals, Order of al-Rafidian 1st class of Iraq (3.9.1932). m. (first) at Kuwait, 19th June 1909, H.E. Shaikha Bazba bint Salim al-Sabah [Bibi Mariam] (b. 1890; d. 1973), daughter of H.E. Shaikh Salim I bin Mubarak al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, CSI, by his wife, Shaikha Mariam bint Jarah, daughter of Shaikh Jarah bin Sabah II. m. (second) Hussa bint Ibrahim al-Ghanim, daughter of Ibrahim bin Muhammad al-Ghanim. m. (third) 1931 (div. 1933) Nura al-Tahus (m. second, 1933, Khamis bin Rimthan, of Ajman; d.s.p.), sister of Muhammad al-Tahus, Chief Guard KNOC. m. (fourth) Munira al-Ayyar, of Jahra. m. (fifth) Delal al-Mutalaqqim, of the Ajman clan. m. (sixth) Shaikha Mariam bint Murait al-Huwailah (d. at Dar Mariam Palace, Siddiq, Hawalli, 24th November 2015, aged 89-years), daughter of Shaikh Murait bin Sa’ad al-Huwailah, from a family originally from Ajman. m. (seventh) Fatima. m. (eighth) Ruqaia bint Faraj. m. (ninth) ca. 1928, Wadha, former wife of Shaikh ‘Ali bin Salim al-Sabah, of the al-Duwai’a tribe in Ajman. m. (tenth) Hussa bint Furain al-Zaki al-Faris, daughter of Furain al-Zaki al-Faris, Amir of Jahra. m. (eleventh) Yamama. m. (twelfth) Hasina. m. (thirteenth) Subha bint Surur bin Nasir, daughter of Surur bin Nasir, and sister of Baiya Surur Nasir. m. (fourteenth) Baiya bint Surur bin Nasir, daughter of Surur bin Nasir, and sister of Subha. m. (fifteenth) at Cairo, Egypt, 4th September 1935 (div. 1937), H.I.H. Princess Khadija Shukriya Sultana (b. at Chamlija Palace, Scutari, 24th February 1906; m. third, H.H. Damad Muhammad Shafik Zia Bey Effendi, and d. at Cairo, 1st April 1972), former wife of H.I.H. Prince Damad Muhammad Sharif ud-din Effendi of Turkey, and daughter of Field Marshal H.I.H. Prince Yusuf Izz ud-din Effendi, GCVO, by his wife, Laman Khanum Effendi, daughter of Ahmad Bey. He d. at the Dasman Palace, Kuwait City, 29th January 1950, having had issue, nine sons and eighteen daughters:
