Takht Mal Sukerchukia, son of Raj Dev Sukerchukia. Allegedly received a firman from the Emperor Alamgir appointing him a Chaudhuri, or tax collector of Yusafpur. He d. 1653, having had issue:
- 1) Bhara Mal Sukerchukia, became a Sikh of the Sahaj Dhari sect and wandered thorugh the countryside preaching the doctrines of Gobind. He d. 1679, having had issue:
  - a) Buddha Singh Sukerchukia [Desu]. b. 1670. A successful cattle thief for much of his life, he received over forty wounds by spear, matchlock and sword. He d. peacefully, 1718, having had issue, two sons:
    - i) Chanda Singh Sandhawalia. Seized several villages in his neighbourhood, with the help of his younger brother. He had issue, two sons:

      - (2) Sardar Didar Singh Sandhawalia. He d. 1784, having had issue, four sons:
        
        (a) Sardar Amir Singh Sandhawalia. Received Harnia, Naunar and Rata Abdal when Maharaja Ranjit Singh seized Jammu on the death of Raja Jai Singh in 1809. Received Shakargarh for his services in capturing the forts of Mojgarh and Jamgarh in 1821. He d. 1827, having had issue, five sons:
        
        (i) General Ujal-didar, Nirmal-budh, Sardar-i-bawakar Sardar Lehna Singh Sandhawalia, Bahadur, educ. privately. Vizier to Maharaja Ranjit Singh 1843. He was k. for his part in the murder of Maharaja Sher Singh, 20^th September 1843, having had issue, two sons:
        
        1. Sardar Partab Singh Sandhawalia, educ. privately. He d.s.p. 1856, having adopted his nephew, Gurbachan Singh (see below).
        
        2. Sardar Thakur Singh Sandhawalia. b. at Raja Sansi, 1837, educ. privately. Extra Asst. Cmsnr. Amritsar 1865, Mngr. Raja Sansi estates on behalf of his second son 1871-1877, Mbr. Punjab Cmsn. 1877, Presdt. Singh Sabha Soc. 1873. Fled to Pondicherry in 1886, where he received a pension from the French govt. m. before 1854, a daughter of Raja Nahar Singh, Raja of Ballabhgarh, by his wife, Rani Kanwal Kaur. He d. at Pondicherry, French India, 18^th August 1887, having had issue, four sons:

Naresh Chhatrapati Sri Maharaja Sri Sansara Chandra Deva Bahadur [Sansar Chand II], Maharaja of Kangra, by his Gulabo Dassi, Rani Nokhu Sahiba, a former shepherdess from the Gaddan tribe. He d. 7^th February 1836, having had issue, a son:
        
        1. Sardar Ajit Singh Sandhawalia. The murderer of Maharaja Sher Singh and his son, Prince Partab Singh. He was k. and his body quartered, 20^th September 1843.

        (iii) General Sardar Budh Singh Sandhawalia. Received Kalar and Nirali for his services in capturing the forts of Mojgarh and Jamgarh in 1821. He d. from cholera, at Lahore, 1827, having had issue:
        
        1. General Sardar Shamsher Singh Sandhawalia. Mbr Council of Regency 1846, raised a troop of 125 horse for service in the Indian Mutiny which later formed part of Hodson's Horse, Magistrate 1862. He d.s.p. 1871, having adopted the son of Thakur Singh (see above).

    - ii) Sardar Naudh Singh Sandhu. Entered service under Kapur Singh Faizullapuria, and fought against Ahmad Shah Durrani. Seized several villages in his neighbourhood, with the help of his elder brother. m. (first) 1710, ... m. (second) 1730, Sardarni Lali Kaur, daughter of Sardar Gulab Singh Majitha, of Amritsar. He was k. at Majitha, fighting the Afghans, 1763, having had issue, four sons:
      - (1) Sardar Charhat Singh Sukerchukia. b. at Sukkarchakk, 1721. Seized the Bal Sehchandar and other villages around Rajasansi. Established his headquarters at Gujranwala. m. 1756, Sardani Mai Desan (k. by her son, Mahan Singh, for alleged adultery), eldest daughter of Amir Singh. He was k. at Jammu in 1770, having had issue:
        
        (a) Sardar Mahan Singh Sukerchukia. b. 1760. Succeeded his father in the Sukkarchakk estates, 1770. Extended his territories from Sahiwal and Isa Khel to Sialkot. m. (first), 1774, Sardarni Raj Kauran [Mai Malwain] (k. by her son, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, for alleged adultery), daughter of Raja Gajpat Singh, Raja of Jind, by his wife, Rani Gajpat Kaur. He d. at Gujranwala, 15^th April 1790, having had issue:
        
        (i) H.H. Maharajadhiraja Ranjit Singh Bahadur, Sher-i-Punjab, Maharaja of Lahore - see below.
