Note: Some male members of the family have taken to assuming the title of Nawab. This is in contravention of all the rules of the Hyderabad state, where such titles were always conferred by the Nizam, never hereditary. However, a certain tradition had developed amongst the servants of "great men" or the heads of households of noble families, to address their superiors as "Nawab". This can only be regarded as a term of respect or praise title for a superior, a practice frequently found in many other parts of India and Asia. Often employed by servants or menials for full effect when in expectation of some favour. As an asside, the author‘s father was frequently addressed by his chief clerk or servants with grandiose titles ranging from "great lord" to "emperor", at different times, depending on the extent of the sum that the latter hoped to borrow. Needless to say, he held pretensions to neither title!
