BRIEF HISTORY

1605 - 1623  Maharana Raj Shri Sartanji [Sultanji] Prithirajji Jhala Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, third son of Kumar Shri Prithirajji Chandrasinghji Jhala Sahib, of Bikanir and Wadhwan, sometime Heir Apparent of Halvad, by his wife, a lady from the Chudasama family of Bhadli, educ. privately. He fled with his brothers to their maternal relations in Bhadli, after the usurpation of their uncle Askaranji at Halvad. When he reached adulthood, he took service under the Jam Sahib of Nawanagar, who assisted him in taking the pargana of Wankaner from the Babrias and Maiyas. He built himself a fort there, making it his capital in 1605, and establishing a new principality of that name. m. Shri Rathorji Raniji Sahib (d. by sati at Idar, 1623), granddaughter of Maharao Shri Shri Shri Viram Dev Sahib, Maharao of Idar. He was k. in battle, at Bhimgunda (Sultanji-nu-Ran), 1623, having had issue, two sons:

1623 - 1653  Maharana Raj Shri Mansinhji Sartanji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, elder son of Maharana Raj Shri Sartanji Prithvisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, by his wife, Shri Rathorji Raniji Sahib, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1623. He d. 1653, having had issue, eight sons:

1653 - 1679  Maharana Raj Shri Raisinhji I Mansinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, son of Maharana Raj Shri Mansinhji Sultanji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1653. He d. 1679, having had issue, two sons:

1679 - 1721  Maharana Raj Shri Chandrasinhji I Raisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, son of Maharana Raj Shri Raisinhji I Mansinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1679. He attacked and defeated Harbhamji, a chief of Cutch, who had dared to plunder Limbala. Later, he conquered Halvad from Nazar Ali Khan Babi in 1680, but was forced to give it up to Jaswantsinhji by command of the Imperial authorities in 1683. He d. at Wankaner, 1721, having had issue, four sons and a daughter:

1721 - 1728  Maharana Raj Shri Prithvirajji Chandrasinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, eldest son of Maharana Raj Shri Chandrasinhji I Raisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1721. He d.s.p.m. 1728 (succ. by his younger brother).

1728 - 1749  Maharana Raj Shri Kesharisinhji I Chandrasinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, second son of Maharana Raj Shri Chandrasinhji I Raisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his elder brother, 1728. He d. 1749, having had issue, an only son:

1749 - 1784 Maharana Raj Shri Bharoji [Bhavaji] Kesharisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, only son of Raj Shri Kesharisinhji I Chandrasinhji Sahib, Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1749. He built the defensive walls around Wankaner, took and briefly held Halvad, defeated and subdued the Kathis of Sudamda and the Kothi of Kundula. m. amongst other wives, Jadeji Maharani Kunkabai Kunverba Sahiba, daughter of Kumar Shri Sagramji Kumbhoji Sahib, Yuvraj Sahib of Gondal. He d. at Wankaner, 1784, having had issue, four sons and one daughter:

1784 - 1787  Maharana Raj Shri Kesharisinhji II Raisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, eldest son of Kumar Shri Raisinhji Bharoji Sahib, Yuvraj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his paternal grandfather, 1784. He d. 1787, having had issue, an only son:

1787 - 1839  Maharana Raj Shri Chandrasinhji II [Dosaji] Kesharinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, son of Maharana Raj Shri Kesharisinhji II Raisinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1787. Entered into treaty relations with the HEIC 1807. He d. at Wankaner, 1839, having had issue, three sons:

1839 - 1860 Maharana Raj Shri Wakhatsinhji Chandrasinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, eldest son of Maharana Raj Shri Chandrasinhji II Kesarinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1839. A religious man, he spent large sums of money on charities and religious foundations, and in making pilgrimages to various sacred places. He d. at Wankaner, 1860, having had issue, seven sons and six daughters:
