GENEALOGY

Maharaj Sujan Singh, of Shahpura, son of Maharaj Suraj Mal, second son of Maharana Amir Singhji I, Maharana of Udaipur, educ. privately. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 800 zat and 300 sowar, prom. to 1,000 zat and 500 sowar 1643, 1,500 zat and 700 sowar 1645, and 2,000 zat and 800 sowar 1651. Served under Aurangzeb in Afghanistan. Granted Phulia in jagir by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631, which he renamed Shahpura, in his honour. He was k. fighting against Emperor Aurangzeb, along with seven of his eight sons, at Dharmatpur (Fatehbad), 15th April 1658:

1706 - 1729 Shri Raja Bharat Singhji Sahib, Raja of Shahpura, son of Maharaj Daulat Singh, of Shahpura, only son of Maharaj Daulat Singh, of Shahpura, educ. privately. Succeeded to his father estates, 18th November 1685. He fought for Maharana Sangram Singh II in the battle against Mewati Ranbaj Khan. Raised to the hereditary title of Raja by Emperor Aurangzeb and his estates constituted as a separate principality, 1706. Imprisoned by his son, Umaid Singh, 27th December 1729. m. (first) Rani Gulab Kanwar Sahiba, a lady from Khandela, in Jaipur. m. (second) Rani Umed Kanwar Sahiba, daughter of Raja Gaj Singhji, of Khandela, in Jaipur. He d. in confinement, at Shahpura, 24th January 1730, having had issue:

1729 - 1769 Shri Raja Umaid Singhji Sahib, Raja of Shahpura, son of Shri Raja Bharat Singhji Sahib, Raja of Shahpura, educ. privately. Succeeded on the deposition and imprisonment of his own father, and installed on the gadi at Shahpura, 27th December 1729. Granted the pargana of Kachola by the Maharana of Udaipur. Joined forces with the Marathas and fought against the Emperor. He was k. at the Battle of Ujjain, 13th January 1769, having had issue, three sons and a daughter:

1769 - 1774 Swasti Shri Raja Ram Singhji Sahib, Raja of Shahpura, son of Rajkumar Adut Singh, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his paternal grandfather, 13th January 1769. Raised to the hereditary title of Swasti Shri Raja, largely in recognition of his father's services. He d. at Shahpura, 29th May 1774, having had issue:

1774 - 1796 Swasti Shri Raja Bhim Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura. b. at Shahpura, ca. 1715, son of Swasti Shri Raja Ram Singhji Sahib, Raja of Shahpura, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 29th May 1774. Installed on the gadi at Shahpura, 30th May 1774. He d. at Udaipur, 19th May 1796 , having had issue, two sons:

1796 - 1827 Swasti Shri Rajadhiraja Amar Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura. b. at Shahpura, 1784, son of Swasti Shri Raja Bhim Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 19th May 1796. Reigned under a Council of Regency until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers. Raised to the hereditary title of Rajadhiraja by the Mughal emperor. He d. at Shahpura, 7th July 1827, having had issue, two sons and a daughter:

1827 - 1845 Svasti Shri Rajadhiraja Madho Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura. b. at Shahpura, 1813, son of Swasti Shri Rajadhiraja Amar Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 7th July 1827. Installed on the gadi at Shahpura, February 1828. Abdicated in favour of his only son, 5th June 1845. m. Shri Rani Khangarotji Sahiba, Regent for her son 30th September 1845-1853. He d. at Shahpura, 30th September 1845, having had issue.

1845 - 1853 Svasti Shri Rajadhiraja Jagat Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura. b. at Shahpura, 1837, son of Svasti Shri Rajadhiraja Madho Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura, by his wife, Shri Rani Khangarotji Sahiba, sometime Regent of Shahpura, educ. privately. Succeeded on the abdication of his father and installed on the gadi at Shahpura, 5th June 1845. Reigned under a Council of Regency headed by his mother, until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers. m. (first) Shri Rani Dadiji Sahiba Mertaniji Sahib (b. ca. 1832; d. at Shahpura, 7th July 1916), Regent for her adopted son . m. (second) …He d.s.p.m. at Shahpura, 23rd June 1853, having had issue, four daughters*:

* The Rani Mertaniji being enciente at the time of her husband's death, the succession was left in abeyance until the sex of her child was known. The child being born a girl, the succession was decided in favour of the late Raja's first cousin.

1853 - 1869 Svasti Shri Rajadhiraja Lakshman Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Shahpura. b. at Kanehchand, 1852, only son of Thakur Chhatar Singh, of Kanehchand, educ. privately. Selected as successor to his paternal first cousin by the Viceroy of India, and formally adopted by the widows of Raja Jagat Singhji, 15th July 1853. Installed on the gadi at Shahpura, on the same day. Reigned under a Council of Regency headed by his adoptive mother, Shri Rani Dadiji Sahiba Mertaniji Sahib. m. Rani Jodhpuriji Sahiba (d. at Shahpura, 1892), daughter of Thakur Lakshman Singh, of Poroli, in Mewar. He d.s.p. at Shahpura, 2nd December 1869.
