GENEALOGY

1620 - 1635 Thakore Shri Vibhoji Ajoji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, younger son of Kunwar Shri Ajoji Sataji Sahib, of Nawanagar Sardhar, educ. privately. Taken prisoner by the Mughals, after the death of his father at the battle of Bhuchar Mori, March 1593. Sent to Delhi, he was placed under the guardianship of his maternal uncle, Jodhaji Soda, maternal uncle of one of Akbar's wives. Granted Kalavad as his appanage but gave it up to the Jam of Nawanagar when he received Chibhda in dowry. Joined the Imperial forces and supported Shah Jahan in expelling the Vaghelas from Sardhar. Received Ardoi, Rib, Ribda and Kalipat as his reward. m. a daughter of the Vaghela Chief of Sardhar. He d. at the Darbargadh, Sardhar, 1635, having had issue:

1635 - 1656 Thakore Shri Mehramanji I Vibhoji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, son of Thakore Shri Vibhoji Ajoji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1635. Joined the Imperial forces and helped in the suppression of the Kathi tribes. Granted several villages in reward from Azam Khan, the Subedar of Gujerat. m. (first) a Rajput lady, who d. young. m. (second) a daughter of the Chidasama Gasia of Gondal. He d. at the Darbargadh, Sardhar, 1656, having had issue, two sons:

1656 - 1675 Thakore Shri Sahibji Mehramanji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, elder son of Thakore Shri Mehramanji I Vibhoji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1656. He d. 1675, having had issue:

1675 - 1694 Thakore Shri Bamanioji Sahibji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, son of Thakore Shri Sahibji Mehramanji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1675. A brave and skillful soldier who seized Rajkot and a number of villages from the Nawab of Junagadh. Resided at Rajkot. He was k. in battle at Naklang Vid, 1694, having had issue, two sons:

1694 - 1720 Thakore Shri Mehramanji II Bamanio Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, younger son of Thakore Shri Bamanioji Sahibji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Sardhar, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1694. Consolidated his control over Rajkot and its surrounding villages, 1707. Expelled by Masum Khan, Deputy Faujdar of Junagadh, who conquered Rajkot and Sardhar in 1720. He was k. in a skirmish with the Masum Khan, at Rajkot 1720, having had issue, seven sons:

1732 - 1746 Thakore Shri Ranmalji Mehramanji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, eldest son of Thakore Shri Mehramanji II Bamanio Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, educ. privately. Recovered Rajkot and killed Masum Khan in 1732. He d. 1746, having had issue, four sons:

1746-17xx and 1794-1795 Thakore Shri Lakhoji I Bhabhoji Ranmalji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, eldest son of Thakore Shri Ranmalji Mehramanji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1746. Abdicated in favour of this eldest son, 179x. Resumed the gadi on his death, 1794. Deposed and expelled by his grandson, 1795. Fled to his clansmen for protection in Nawanagar. He d. at Nawanagar, 1796, had issue, five sons:

17xx - 1794 Thakore Shri Mehramanji III Lakhoji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, eldest son of Thakore Shri Lakhoji I Bhabhoji Ranmalji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, educ. privately. Succeeded on the abdication of his father. A famed poet and man of letters. Author of Pravin Sagar (1782). He d.v.p. at Rajkot, 1794, having had issue, two sons:

1795 - 1825 Thakore Shri Ranmalji II Mehramanji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, elder son of Thakore Shri Mehramanji III Lakhoji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, educ. privately. Deposed and expelled his grandfather, then ascended the gadi in his stead, 1795. m. (first) Thakorani Shri Jambakunverba Sahiba, of Sayla. m. (second) Thakorani Shri Adibakunverba Sahiba, daughter of the Akevalia Gerasia, a bhayad of Limbdi. m. (third) Thakorani Shri Motibakunverba Sahiba, daughter of a Rajput of Anand Mogri in Gujarat. He d. at Rajkot, 1825, having had issue, two sons:
  • 1) Thakore Shri Suraji Ranmalji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot (s/o Jambakunverba) - see below.
  • 2) Kumar Shri Hothiji Ranmalji Sahib (s/o Motibakunverba), who had issue:
    • a) Kumar Shri Bhupatsinhji Hothiji, of Dholera. He had issue:
      • i) Jadeja Shri Ramsinhji Bhupatsinhji. m. a daughter of Rana Shri Muluji Lakhobhai [Dada Sahib], of Bodi. He had issue, three sons:
        • (1) Jadeja Shri Shivsinhji Ramsinhji, of Dholera. Guardian to the Heir Apparent. Rcvd: Delhi Durbar silver medal (1911). He had issue:
          • (a) Shri R. Shivsinghi Jadeja. Riyatas Supt 1947-1948.
        • (2) Jadeja Shri Pratapsinhji Ramsinhji. b. at Dholera, Rajkot, 15th November 1883, educ. Girasia Coll, Gondal, and at Meerut. Served with Jamnagar Imperial Service Troops 1900-1903, Inspector of Police Morvi 1903-1906, Rayasat Officer Porbandar 1906-1908, Supt of Police 1908-1909, Personal Assist to the Administrator of Porbandar 1909, Wazir and Dewan of Porbandar ca 1928-1943. Rcvd: Delhi Durbar silver (1911), Silver Jubilee (1935), and Coron (1937) medals.

Succeeded on the death of his father, 1825. m. (first) Thakorani Shri Amjibakunverba Sahiba, daughter of the Thakore Sahib of Sayla. m. (second) H.H. Thakorani Shri Nanibakunverba Sahiba (d. at Rajkot, 20th January 1893), Regent for her grandson 1862-1867, daughter of Thakore Shri Abheysinhji II Hathisinhji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Chuda. He d. at Rajkot, 1844, having had issue, two sons:
  • 1) Kumar Shri Gaghuba Suraji, Yuvraj Sahib of Rajkot (s/o Amjibakunverba). He d.v.p. at Rajkot, aged five years.

1844 - 1862 H.H. Thakore Shri Mehrmansinhji IV Suraji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot. b. at Rajkot, 1834, younger son of Thakore Shri Suraji Ranmalji Sahib, Thakore Sahib of Rajkot, by his second wife, H.H. Thakorani Shri Nanibakunverba Sahiba, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 1844. Received a gold necklace from the Government of Bombay in appreciation of his suppression of the practice of drowning new-born girls in milk, 1857. Granted the personal style of His Highness. His reign saw several famous schools founded in his little capital, including the Alfred High School, Hunter Training College, the Barton College for Women Teachers and the Rajkumar College. m. (first) H.H. Thakorani Shri Hajubakunverba Sahiba, daughter of Maharana Raj Shri Vakhatsinhji Chandrasinhji Sahib, Maharana Raj Sahib of Wankaner. m. (second) H.H. Thakorani Shri Haribakunverba Sahiba, daughter of Kumar Shri Akherajji [Akhubha] Vijaysinghji Sahib, of Lakhanka, Tatum and Nani Sarangpur, under; Bhavnagar state. m. (third) H.H.
