- 1612 - 1613 Rai Sri
Dalpat Singhji Bahadur [Dalip], Rai of Bikaner. b.
24th January 1565, second son of
Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Sri Rai Singhji Bahadur, Raja of
Bikaner, by his first wife, Maharani Sri Jaswant-de
Sahiba, educ. privately and at the Imperial Court.
Entered the Mughal service and pppointed to an Imperial mansabof 500 zat 1595, prom. to 1,500 zat and
1,500 sowar August 1612, prom. to 2,000 zat
and 2,000 sowar 1613. Governor of Sirsa 1573,
seized Hardesar after the death of his cousin Narayan in
1574. Granted Bhatner as an Imperial jagir after
it was confiscated from his father by the Emperor in
1597. Rebelled against his father and the Imperial
authority in 1607, but sought and received a pardon in
early 1608. Disinherited by his father on his deathbed,
22nd January 1612. However, being in control
of the state in his father's absence, and his nobles
being unaware of his father's change of heart, he
proclaimed himself ruler and proceeded to Delhi to secure
reconition. Granted the title of Rai and invested
with khilat. Confirmed and invested as ruler of
Bikaner by the Emperor in person, at Delhi. Defeated by
his younger brother Sur Singhji, and sent as a risoner to
court, before 11th August 1613. m. at
least six Ranis who all comitted sati at Bhatner
after hearing of his death. He was k. at
Ajmer, attempting to escape from captivity, 1613 (succ.
by his younger brother), having had issue, a son and five
daughters, including:
- 1)
Kanwar Sri Udai Singhji. He d. after 25th
August 1619.

youngest daughter (Rani Rup Manjari?). m.

October 1627, bur. Mausoleum of Emperor
Jahangir, Shahdera Bagh, Lahore), third son of
H.M. Al-Sultan al-'Azam wal Khaqan al-Mukarram,
Imam-i-'Adil, Sultan ul-Islam Kaffatt ul-Anam,
Amir ul-Mu'minin, Khalifat ul-Muta'ali Abu'l-Fath
Jalal ud-din Muhammad Akbar I Sahib-i-Zaman,
Padshah Ghazi Zillu'llah ['Arsh-Ashyani], Emperor
of India, by his wife, Wali Nimat, Hamida Banu
Mariam uz-Zamani Begum Sahiba, eldest daughter of

- 1613 - 1631 Rao Sri Surat Singhji Bhuratiya [Surji], Rao of Bikaner, 28th November 1594, second son of Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Sri Rai Singhji Bahadur, Raja of Bikaner, educ. privately. Appointed as Heir Apparent by his father on his deathbed, at Burhanpur, 22nd January 1612. However, being in the Deccan at the time, he was unable to assume control of Bikaner. Granted Phalodi and 84 villages as his jagir, during his father’s lifetime. Appointed Heir Apparent by his father, but was absent from Bikaner when news of his death was received. Defeated his brother and ascended the gadi, Junagadh, Bikaner, August 1613. Confirmed and invested as ruler of Bikaner with the title of Rai* by the Emperor in person, at Delhi. Granted the thana of Jalnapur in 1622, and the jagir of Maroth in 1627. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 3,000 zat and 2,000 sowar by Emperor Jahangir, prom. to 4,000 zat and 2,500 sowar 1627, prom. to 3,000 sowar 1629. Raised to the hereditary title of Rao by Emperor Shah Jahan. m. at Phalodi, …He d. at Bohri, in Burhanpur, Deccan, 15th September 1631, having had issue, three sons:

Kanwar Sri Chatra Sal [Shatrusalji]. Entered the
Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab
of 500 zat and 40 sowar in 1631,

before 1638.

- * There is
considerable doubt about the correct titles of this
ruler. Although invested with the title of Rai
by the Emperor at his accession in 1613, subsequent
Imperial firmans refer to him also as Rao
and Raja. The three titles are used
interchangeable and the dates for their use do not
conform to any chronological pattern.

- 1631 - 1667 Rao Sri Karan Singhji Bahadur, Jangalpat Badhshah, Rao of Bikaner. b. at Junagadh, Bikaner, 30th January 1616, eldest son of Rao Sri Surat Singhji Bhuratiya, Rao of Bikaner, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 15th September 1631. Installed on the gadi at Junagadh, Bikaner, 13th October 1631. Entered the Mughal service and appointed to an Imperial mansab of 500 zat and 200 sowar by Emperor Shah Jahan, prom. to 2,000 zat and 1,500 sowar in 1631, raised to 2,000 zat and 2,000 sowar in 1648, 2,500 zat in 1649, and 3,000 zat in 1652, demoted 1666. Killedar of Daulatabad Fort 1648-1652. Deposed by Emperor Aurangzeb for dereliction of duty at Attock, 11th January 1667. Exiled to his betel gardens at Karanpura, in the Deccan. m. a lady from Rampur. He d. at Aurangabad, Deccan, 1669, having had issue, eight sons:

Maharaja Sri Anup Singhji Bahadur, Maharaja of Bikaner – see below.
- 2) Maharaj Sri Keshri Singhji Bahadur. b. at Junagadh, Bikaner, 1641, educ. privately. Entered the Mughal service and served with distinction against Prince Dara Shikoh and in the Bengal expedition of 1667. Received a sword of honour by Emperor Aurangzeb. m. Khandeliji Rani Sri Karuna Devi Sahiba, daughter of Raja Shri Dwarka Das Bahadur, Raja of Khandela, in Jaipur. He d.s.p. 1685.
- 3) Maharaj Sri Padam Singhji Bahadur. b. at Junagadh, Bikaner, 1645, educ. privately. Entered the Mughal service and served with distinction against Prince Dara Shikoh. He was k. in battle with the Jadurai and Sanwatrai Dhakhunis on the banks of the Tapti River, 24th March 1683, having had issue, one son and three daughters:
- a) Maharaj Sri Sahab Singh. He had issue, a son:
- i) Rajkumar Sri Raghunath Singh. He d.v.p.
- a) Rajkumari Prem Kanwar Baisa [Maharani Sri Prem Kunwarji Sahiba, of Partabgarh]. m. Maharajadhiraj Maharawat Sri Partab Singhji Bahadur, Maharawat of Partabgarh (d. 30th November 1708), son of Thakur Madho Singh II, Thakur of Achlaoda. She had issue – see India (Partabgarh).
- b) Rajkumari … Kanwar Baisa. m. Maharajkumar Sri Bhim Singhji, eldest son of Maharana Raj Singhji Sahib, Maharana of Udaipur – see India (Udaipur).
- c) Rajkumari Vijay Kanwar Baisa [Maharani Sri Vijay Kunwarji Sahiba, of Partabgarh]. m. Maharajadhiraj Maharawat Sri Prithvi Singhji Bahadur, Maharawat of Partabgarh (d. 1717), son of Maharajadhiraj Maharawat Sri Partab Singhji Bahadur, Maharawat of Partabgarh. She had issue – see India (Partabgarh).
- 4) Kunwar Mohan Singh, educ. privately. He was k. (s.p.) in affray involving Shahzada Muazzam, near Aurangabad.
- 5) Kunwar Devi Singh.
- 6) Kunwar Amar Singh.
- 7) Kunwar Madan Singh.
- 8) Kunwar Ajab Singh.
- Maharaja Sri
Karan Singh, also had issue:
- 5) Rao
Raja Sri Banmali Das. Became a convert to Islam
and entered the Mugh service, receiving a mansab
of 1,000 zat and 100 sowar. m.
a slave girl whom he believed to be the daughter
of Thakur Lakshmi Das Sonagri. He was k.
(poisoned) by his slave wife, on the orders of
Thakur Lakshmi Das Sonagri, at Chingoi, 1682.
