Maharaja Shri Brijendra Sawai Sir Kishan Singhji Bahadur Jang, Maharaja of Bharatpur, KCSI (1.1.1926). b. at the Mahal Khas, Lohagarh, Bharatpur, 4th October 1899, elder son of H.H. Maharaja Shri Brijendra Sawai Ram Singhji Bahadur Jang, Maharaja of Bharatpur, by his second wife,H.H. Maharani Sri Maji Sahiba Bibiji Giriraj Kaurji, CI, educ. Mayo Coll, Ajmer, and Wellington Sch, Somserset. Succeeded on the deposition of his father, 27th August 1900. Installed on the gadi, at Jawahar Burj, Lohagarh, Bharatpur, 30th August 1900. Reigned under the Regency of his mother until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers, 28th November 1918. Cmsnd as Hon Lieut British Army 1/1/1918, prom Hon Major 1/1/1921, and Hon Lieut-Col 25/10/1921. Hon Col 1st Btn, 144th (Bharatpur) Infantry, IA 10/1/1919. Colonel-in-Chief Kishan Singh’s Own Brijendra Lancers 1921-1929. Attended the funeral of the King-Emperor Edward VII, 1910. Page-of-Honour to the King-Emperor at the Delhi Durbar, 1911. Granted a permanent salute of 19-guns, in recognition of the services of his troops in the Great War, 1st January 1921. Rcvd: Delhi Durbar gold medal (1911), and GO of the Order of the Crown of Belgian (12.2.1926). m. at Qila Mubaraqat, Faridkot, 3rd March 1913, H.H. Maharani Sri Maji Sahiba Bibiji Rajendra Kaurji Sahiba (b. at Qila Mubaraqat, Faridkot, 190x; d. at Deeg, 18th August 1929), Col-in-Chief Brijendra Elephant Artillery, youngest daughter of H.H. Farzand-i-Sadaat Nishan Hazrat-i-Kaiser-i-Hind Raja Balbir Singh, Brar Bans Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Faridkot. He d. at Agra, 27th March 1929, having had issue, four sons and three daughters:
- 1) H.H. Maharaja Shri Brijendra Sawai Brijendra Singhji Bahadur Jang, Maharaja of Bharatpur - see below.
- 2) Rao Raja Sri Girrendra Raj Singhji Bahadur. b. 23rd December 1920, educ. Haileybury, Hertfordshire. Hon Lieut 1st Muthoo Infantry, Bharatpur State Forces. He d. unm. from typhoid fever at Bharatpur, 20th September 1940.
- 3) Major Raja Sri Edward Man Singhji Bahadur. b. 4th December 1921 (for whom the King-Emperor Edward VIII stood sponsor), educ. Malvern Coll, Worcestershire, Loughborough Coll, Leicestershire, and RMA Sandhurst. Cmsnd as 2nd Lieut IA 29/5/1943 attached 2nd Royal Lancers (Gardener’s Horse), prom Lieut 29/11/1943, prom actg Capt, served in WW2, prom Hon Maj Bharatpur State Forces 1946, MSC and General Minister 1946-1948, MLA for Deeg in the Rajasthan state assembly 1952-1985. Styled Rao Raja at birth and prom to the title of Raja in late 1946. Rcvd: Brijendra Order 1st class, 1939/45 Star, British War and India Service medals (1945). m. at the Royal Palace, Kolhapur, 9th March 1945, Rani Vaijayanti Raje Sahiba, née Shrimant Anantmala Bai Sahib Ghatge, second daughter of Meherban Shrimant Chiranjiva Rajashri Dattajirao Ghatge [Bala Sahib], Sarjerao, Desmukh, Chief of Kagal (Junior). He was k. (shot in the back six times by police while alighting from his jeep during the election campaign), at Deeg, 21st February 1985, having had issue, three daughters:

- c) Rajkumari Sri Bibiji Krishnendra Kaur Sahiba [Shrimathi Deepa Singh]. b. at Bharatpur, 10th April 1954, educ. Maharani Gayatri Devi Public Sch, Jaipur. MLA for Deeg in the Rajasthan state assembly 1985-1993 and for Nadbai since 2003, MP (Lok Sabha) for Bharatpur City 1991-1996. m. 26th April 1982, Shri Vijay Singh, of Sirohi, in UP, a cousin of Brigadier Jitender Pal Singh. She had issue, one son and one daughter.
- 4) Squadron Leader Raja Sri Girraj Saran Singhji Bahadur [Bachhu Singh]. b. at Bharatpur, 30th November 1922, educ. Wellington Sch., Somerset, and RIAF Coll, Lahore, Punjab. Cmsnd as Pilot Officer RIAF 6/2/1940, prom Flying Officer RIAFVR 6/6/1942, served in WW2, retd as Squadron Leader 1946, Military Sec 1946-1948, Hon Capt Ram Risala 1946, MP (Lok Sabha) for Bharatpur City 1952-1957 and for Mathura 1967-1969. Styled Rao Raja at birth and prom to the title of Raja in late 1946. Rcvd: Brijendra Order 1st class, 1939/45 Star, British War and India Service medals (1945). m. (first) at Kapurthala, 19th February 1942 (div. 1958), Maharajkumari Bibiji Sushila Devi Sahiba (b. at Kapurthala, 14th December 1918; d. at Simla, 16th November 1974), second daughter of Colonel H.H. Farzand-i-dilband, Rasikh ul-Itikad Daulat-i-Inglishia, Raja-i-Rajgan Maharaja Shri Paramjit Singh Bahadur, Maharaja of Kapurthala, by his first wife, H.H. Maharani Sri Brinda Devi, daughter of Raj Kumar Shri Gambhir Chand, of Jubbal. m. (second) 1961, Shrimathi Pamela Nandini Singh, a divorcee, daughter of Ramdas Krishna Naidu, by his wife, Dorothy, daughter of Dr Manmohan Lal Agarwala. He d. from cirrhosis of the liver, at New Delhi, 16th December 1969, having had issue, two sons:

Tara Hall, Simla, daughter of Tikka Jagjit Singh, of Shahzadpur, Haryana, by his wife, Tikkarani Inderjit Kaur, daughter of Colonel Sardar Gurcharan Singh, of Bhadaur. No issue.
- b) Rajkumar Sri Arun Singhji Sahib. b. at Delhi, 13th February 1947 (s/o Sushila Devi), educ. Bishop Cotton Sch, Simla, and St Stephen’s Coll, Univ of Delhi (BA). MLA for Deeg Rajasthan State Assembly 1993-2006. He d. unm. from kidney failure, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, 15th March 2006.
- 1) Maharajkumari Sri Bibaji Kusum Kaur Sahiba [Rani Kaila Deviji Sahiba, of Unchagaon]. b. at Savar Mahal, Bharatpur, 10th September 1916, educ. privately. m. at Bharatpur, 26th February 1933 (sep.) Raja Surendra Pal Singh, of Unchagaon (b. at Unchagaon Fort, 17th May 1917), sometime Union Minister of State for External Affairs, son of Jagat Singh, of Unchagaon, in the Bulandshahr district of UP. She had issue.
- 2) Maharajkumari Sri Bibaji Brij Kaur Sahiba. b. at Savar Mahal, Bharatpur, 12th January 1918 (?), educ. privately. She d. unm. 19th May 1930.
- 3) Maharajkumari Sri Bibaji Padma Kaur Sahiba [Kanwarani Vrish Bhan Kunwar Sahiba]. b. at Savar Mahal, Bharatpur, 18th September 1919), educ. privately. m. at Bharatpur, 11th March 1934, Kanwar Brijendra Singh (b. at Moradabad, 29th September 1918; m. second, at Lucknow, July 1945 (div.), Anna Singh, and d. at New Delhi, 4th November 1996, leaving further issue by his second wife), of Moradabad, UP, Minister-in-Waiting to the Maharaja of Bharatpur 1944, son of Rao Bahadur Kunwar Sardar Singh, of Moradabad, UP. She d. at Mysore, 4th July 1944, having had issue, three daughters.

Maharaja Shri Brijendra Sawai Sir Kishan Singhji Bahadur Jang, Maharaja of Bharatpur, KCSI, by his wife, H.H. Maharani Sri Maji Sahiba Bibiji Rajendra Kaurji Sahiba, educ. Bryanston Sch, Blandford, Dorset, and Wellington Sch, Somerset. Succeeded on the death of his father, 27th March 1929. Ascended the gadi 14th April 1929 and reigned under a Council of Regency until he came of age. Invested with limited ruling powers, 22nd October 1939. Invested with full ruling powers, 19xx. Hon Lieut Bharatpur Mechanical Transport Troop 1919, Colonel-in-Chief Kishan Singh’s Own Brijendra Lancers 1929-1950. Cmsnd as Hon Lieut Indian Army 21/7/1942, attached 21st KGVO Central India Horse, prom Hon Capt 11/7/1944, Hon Lt-Col 15/8/1945, and Hon Col 15/10/1946. Signed the instrument of accession to the Dominion of India, August 1947. Entered into a covenant with his fellow rulers to form the United State of Matsya on 28th February 1948, by which his state merged with that union effective from 17th March 1948. Consented to a further covenant creating the Greater Rajasthan union on 10th March 1949, by which his state merged with that union effective 15th May 1949 (when he ceased to enjoy sovereign powers). MP (Lok Sabha) 1962-1971. The GOI amended the Indian Constitution to remove his position as a "ruler" and his right to receive privy-purse payments, 28th December 1971.
