GENEALOGY
1299 - 1346 H.M. The Most High King Giorgi V Birtsqinvali (the Brilliant), by the will of our Lord, King of the Abkhazis, Kartvelians, Ranians, Kakhetians and the Armenians, Shirvanshah and Shahanshah and Master of all the East and West, King of Georgia, youngest son of H.M. The Most High King Demetre II Tavdadebuli (the devout), by his third wife, H.M. The Most High Queen Natalia, daughter of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Béka I Jageli, Atabegi of Samtzkhé. Joint king together with his elder brothers, King Davit VIII and Vakhtang III from 1299. Reigned under the regency of the Grand Vizier Choban, until 1314. He stopped paying tribute and drove the Mongols out Georgia. He united Georgia once again, centralised royal power, revived the economy, and established close international commercial ties, mainly with Byzantium, but also with Venice and Genoa.
