Shum Agame Wolde Leu'l [Woldu]

Shum Agame Wolde Leu'l [Woldu*]. b. on the shores of the Red Sea, son of Shum Agame Enda Sebhat, educ. privately. Appointed as Shum Agame by his patron, Ras Wolde Selassie, before 1802. m. Woizero Sabana Giyorgis. He d. 1815, having had issue, six sons:

1) Shum Wolde Tiatos [Tadu]. m. Woizero Gelebe, a descendant of a niece of Emperor Gelawdios. He had issue, one son and four daughters:

a) Mekkonen Wolde Tiatos. He had issue, a son:

i) Abegaze Mekkonen. He had issue, a son and a daughter:

(1) Fitawrari Egegu Abegaze.
(1) Woizero Yamerot. m. Kassa Mengestu. She d. at Mekele (bur. there at Gugsa Mariam Church), having had issue, three sons:

(a) Abera Kassa.
(b) Abebe Kassa.
(c) Dessalegne Kassa. He had issue:

(i) Zewditu.
(ii) Alem.
(iii) Hager.
(iv) Aregash.
(v) Adanech.
(vi) Fantahun.
(vii) Azeb.

a) Woizero Sendek [Emet Negest]. m. as his second wife, H.H. Negus Araya Selassie [Sahle Selassie], King of Tigray (b. before September 1867; d. from smallpox at Mekelle Castle, 10^th June 1888, bur. there at the Medhane Alem Church), son of H.M. Elect of God, Yohannes IV, King of Seyun, King of Kings of Ethiopia. She had issue, a son – see below.
b) Woizero Aberash.
c) Woizero Weshen.
d) Woizero Sahel.

2) Dejazmatch Sebagadis [Za-Manfas Qedus], ruler of Tigray (s/o Woizero Sabana Giyorgis) - see below.
3) Fitawrari Gabru Gura (s/o Woizero Sabana Giyorgis). A prisoner of Ras Wolde Selassie 1809-1811. He was k. in battle with Dejazmatch Dimtsu, at Woger Arrewa, before 29^th October 1816, having had issue, a son:
- a) Ato Gafi.
5) Shum Sardie. Appointed as Shum Agame by Ras Wolde Selassie, 6^th May 1811.
6) Shum Gabre Medhin.
1) Woizero Tabutu. m. (div.) Dejazmatch Dimtsu Debbab (d. before 8^th December 1817), son of Dejazmatch Debbab Kefla Iyasus. m. (second), Rema of Shoa. She had four children, including two sons and a daughter, by her first husband - see above.
2) Woizero ... m. Dejazmatch Darras.

1818 - 1831 Dejazmatch Sebagadis [Abba Garrebar], Prince (Mesfin) of Tigray. b. 1770, son of Shum Agame Wolde Leu'l [Woldu], by his wife, Woizero Sabana Giyorgis. Baptised as Za-Manfas Qedus. Succeeded his father as Shum Agame, 1815. Became ruler of Tigray, Semien, and the entire costal plains of Eritrea, 1818. Defeated by Ras Dori at the Battle of May Islami, near the Takkaze, in Sere, 15^th February 1831. m. (first) (div. three years later) Woizero Desta, daughter of Nebura'id Aram, by his wife, Woizero Alassa, daughter of Dejazmatch Debbab Kefla Iyasus. m. (second) before 26^th October 1817 (div.), the widow of his elder brother, Fitawrari Gabre Gura, by whom he had a son. m. (third) Woizero Yewubdar (m. second, after 1832, Ras Haile Mariam, and had further issue), younger daughter of H.E. Dejazmatch Haile Mariam Gabre, Governor of Semien, by his second wife, Woizero Hirut, daughter of Ras Gugsa Marso. He was k. (speared) in custody, at Sere, 16^th February 1831 (bur. Dabra Abay), having had issue:

1) Dejazmatch Wolde Mikael (eldest son). Attacked and defeated his youngest brother, who had rebelled against Wube, 1838.
2) Dejazmatch Hagos Sabagadis. He was k. (beaten to death) for the murder of Ras Mariye, at Siré, 15^th February 1831.
3) Dejazmatch Aragawi Sabagadis, Shum Agame. He had issue, five sons:
- a) Ras Sebhat Aragawi, Shum Agame. Invested with the title of Ras by Mangasha, at Hawzen, 8^th March 1892. m. at Agame, February 1892, Woizero Shoanesh, daughter of Basha Gabre Mariam Angda. He was k. in battle with Dejazmatch Gabre Sellasie, 28^th February 1914, having had issue, three sons:
  - i) Dejazmatch Desta Sebhat, Shum Agame. He d. before 28^th February 1914.
  - ii) Dejazmatch Ayala Sebhat. Patriot and diplomat.
  - iii) Lij Gebrezgi Sebhat. He was k. fighting the Italians, during the Patriotic War.
- b) Dejazmatch Abbaya Aragawi. m. at Agame, February 1892, Woizero Dammaqach (b. ca. 1873), eldest daughter of Terkwe Basha Ras Gabre Mikael Angda [Alula], sometime Governor-General of Hamasen, by his first wife, Woizero Bitwata Gabre Masqal, of Tamben.

4) Dejazmatch Kassa [Kahssaye] Sabagadis. Rebelled against Ras Wube, captured and imprisoned by him at Amba Tezen. m. (first) a daughter of H.E. Ras Wube Haile Mariam, Prince of Tigray. m. (second) Woizero Aberrasc, second daughter of Dejazmatch Hailu, of Tsazzega, by his first wife, Woizero Eleni, daughter of Abeto Hagos, of Tsada-Chistan.
5) Lij Balgada-Araya (youngest son). Shum Agame 1831-1838.
6) Lij Hailu.
1) Woizero … m. 1818, Kantiba Gabre Amlak, eldest son of Kantiba Karlan.
2) Woizero Sahlu [Walatta Giyorgis] (d/o Woizero Desta). m. (first) before 1814, Ato Gabre Kidan, of Salumte. m. (second) after 1818, Abeto Tawalda Medhin (d. after September 1834, bur. Tsazzega), son of Abeto Tasfa Seyun, of Nai'o, by his wife, Woizero Lette-Nob. She had issue, one son and two daughters.
3) Woizero Dinqinash. m. ca. 1828, H.E. Ras Wube Haile Mariam, son of H.E. Dejazmatch Haile Mariam Gabre, Governor of Semien, by his first wife, Mintaye - see below.
