ORDERS & MEDALS

The Order of the Renaissance (Wisam al-Nahda): founded by King Hussein ibn ‘Ali of the Hijaz on 5^th May 1918 in honour of the Arab renaissance, following the revolt against Turkish rule and to reward those who served in the war of liberation. Awarded in five classes (1. Grand Cordon, 2. Grand Officer, 3. Commander, 4. Member 4^th, and 5. Member 5^th class). Appropriated and modified by King ‘Abdu’llah I of Jordan in 1925, with the permission and approval of his elder brother King ‘Ali ibn Hussein of the Hijaz.

The Order of Independence (Wisam al-Istiqlal): founded by King Hussein ibn ‘Ali of the Hijaz in February 1919 in celebration of Arab independence and as a reward for those who helped to achieve it. Awarded in five classes (1. Grand Cordon, 2. Grand Officer, 3. Commander, 4. Member 4^th, and 5. Member 5^th class). Appropriated and modified by King ‘Abdu’llah I of Jordan in 1925, with the permission and approval of his elder brother King ‘Ali ibn Hussein of the Hijaz.

The Arab Independence Medal (Midalat al-Istiqlal al-Arabi): instituted by King Hussein I of the Hijaz in 1921 in celebration of Arab independence. Retained as both an Iraqi and a Jordanian award after 1925.
The Ma’an Medal (Midalat Tadhkar Harb al-Ma’an): instituted by King Hussein I of the Hijaz on 5^th May 1918 to reward those members of the Arab Army and irregular forces who took part in the battle of Ma’an, a town later ceded to Jordan, during the period 16^th-22^nd April 1918. Confirmed and conditions published by King Faisal I of Iraq when King of Syria on 11^th September 1919. Retained as both an Iraqi and a Jordanian award after 1925.
